Nice wooden floors, very hard to find nowadays.”
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Malate Pensionne, although it was just a short stay, I would say that we enjoyed it. Friendly and helpful staff. Room size and bed was good enough to have a good night rest, which is what is really important for us. I would stay again with them and recommend the Malate Pensionne to friends looking for an affordable, clean and comfortable family hotel close to everything.

Great stay for our one night in Manila!”
We were impressed with the courteous staff, the amenities (bang for the buck - great!), proximity to Robinson's Mall, and the small Coffee Shop attached to Malate Pensionne was open before 4 am, in time to feed us before our trip to the Int'l Airport! Add in the fact that they can provide a safe and secure ride to the NAIA Airport, at a most reasonable cost of P400 for my wife and I! We love Malate Pensionne house, and will set up for them to pick us up at the Airport, next trip! Thanks Malate Pensionne!

Nostalgic, Convenient & Accessible ”
Every time I visit Manila, I always I check-in at Malate Pensionne. The staff are so friendly and accomodating. Almost all of them know me already due to my frequent stay there. Location wise, it's very convenient going to the mall, restaurants & bars. Robinson's Mall is just 10 minute walk from the hotel. Also, there are a lot of restaurants and bars to choose from around that vicinity. It's located right at the centre of the city, so public transportation is never a problem. You can find jeepneys all over the place to take you to any places in Manila. Another thing I enjoy about this hotel is that....it gives you a nostalgic feeling. Its old Spanish structure and interior design are well-preserved. On the minus side, you need to bring your own toiletries & hair dryer (if needed), cos' they only provide soap (small ones)and towels, that's all. This hotel is highly recommended for back-packers & for those travellers who are on a budget.

Excellent now after major renovation”
I stayed at Malate Pensionne in 2010 after a missed flight connection, had been referred to it by a veteran expat NGO'er. The hotel underwent renovation after, with significant upgrades especially to the bathrooms, a new lobby and more patio space. The result is great! It retains it's old charm as a historic hotel with lots of wood paneling/floors/furniture, antique clocks in the hallways, etc. It's not a luxury hotel but it is safe to stay, clean, and friendly - while being very affordable to the budget strapped expat NGO crowd usually staying here. A major indoor shopping mall is in walking distance, so are numerous night clubs, and some very good restaurants (bad ones too...). You have to be able to tolerate some noise to like it.

Nice Old Manila Charm”
After taxes and fees paid per night. Aircon, hot shower, nice ceiling mounted fan and comfortable bed. They have wi-fi but charge and hour to access in your room. Go downstairs to the Coffee Bean and buy a internet access card for 195P good at all Coffee Bean's in the Philippines, plus the Coffee Bean has a nice lounge area. I was able to pickup the Coffee Bean wi-fi in my room which was on the 4th floor....3 flights of stairs up and there is no elevator. Located among the nightlife of Malate and Ermita. However the Pensionne House does not tolerate dragging in your play for pay friends so naughty boys may wish to find other accomodations. Stayed two nights here and enjoyed the accomodations. Rooms have windows, a desk, shower, wardrobe and we had a queen bed. Remember you are in Malate/Ermita and there are plenty of KTV's, girly bars, beggars and hawkers. They are benign and go away if you place them on ignore and do not engage in conversation. Right next door is a an outdoor resto/bar with cheap cold San Mig and very reasonably priced food. The Where 2 Next Guesthouse is across the street and there are also numerous Pensionne Houses up and down Adriatico Street.

A Gem Of An "Italian" Small-Short-Stay Hotel”
Excellent. Spent New Year Eve's there. There was free karaoke during the day and night, free food and drinks at midnight, and free pesos coins thrown into the air and watching with mirth, everyone scrambling for it. The hotel is clean and sturdy, and friendly. Like staying in a historical old English building. The location is good even though it is supposed to be a "red light" area with plenty of bars (less on Adriatico but more on the next street) but there's plenty of restaurants too, and near to Robinsons mall. At night the street is well lit up with a sense of festivity. And no jeepnies are allowed on this street, thus not noisy, dusty and raucous like other streets. A gem, even if outside visitors not allowed into bedrooms. Nice courtyard, Gazebo, and Coffee Bean outlet in front facing street. Learnt that "Pensionne" is Italian word for small-short stay hotel. It is not just for pensioners! A misconception. All in, a wonderful stay. Regretted booking earlier into another Pension House on another street for last day of stay in Manila. Malate Pensionne is highly recommended in my view. There should be more guests here!

Quick Overnight Stay for Backpacker”
I've made a booking here for my Indonesian friend who had a 20-hrs. layover in Manila and the recommendation came from my friend and Agoda to push through with the booking. The establishment itself was not just a business but a reflection of Manila's grandeur through the olden times. It was a good introduction to my friend on experiencing what it is like to live in a Manila house as it was retrofit for business when the family decided to put it on business. The location was nearby important historical landmarks such as the Malate Church (British base during the occupation) which is walking distance and a jeep away will take you to the heart of the City of Manila; only the downside of the hostel is it was quite hidden - might quite have a challenge if you manually look for it. If you worry about restaurants, there's plenty around the area! Staff were extremely friendly and great - true Filipino hospitality. Other areas to improve are WiFi, cleanliness, maintenance and mosquito problems.

A pleasant enough stay with some friendly staff.”
Overall I found the Malate Pensionne a decent place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful most of the time, but information from the front desk wasn't always given with much enthusiasm. The breakfast included with room price was not worth having, nothing more than a cup of coffee and a couple of rolls. The room was spacious but nothing special, it's location was awful, the outside noise kept me awake all night, and I do mean ALL night. I personally think the price reflects the condition of the hotel itself rather than the private rooms. I would stay here again, but probably only after trying some of the alternatives in the area.

Decent budget boutique hotel”
You could do worse than stay at Malate Pensionne during your stay in Manila. It is conveniently located to Robinsons Mall (which is literally just up the road) although the area itself is rather seedy. Be prepared to be confronted by extreme poverty. There are some good restaurants in the area (although most are not Filipino - there is a proliferation of Korean, Japanese, etc. instead). The hotel is within walking distance to the old quarter, and it is not a bad walk along the beachfront. The hotel itself was undergoing renovations while we were there - nice new bathroom facilities, new lobby, etc. The staff are friendly and happy to provide local advice re shopping, etc. Beware the claims made about free wifi, however (if this is an important feature for you). There are only two login access passwords for the entire hotel, so you may only be able to access for about 1/2 an hour every so often. Overall, the place isn't bad, and I would probably stay again.

Malate Pensionne Manila was a good surprise”
Dear Readers Malate Pensionne was not what I expected but I decided to stay as the room was safe without any safety deposit boxes, and the staff were quite accommodating in all respect. At first I was uncomfortable but later I saw how safe and well mannered the staff were I decided to stay for the duration of my stay. So for the cost its a good place if you want to stay briefly in Malate Manila.

A stone's throw away from everything”
Malate Pensionne is walking distance from almost everything: a mall (Robinson's Place, Ermita), a Catholic church (Our Lady of Remedies), two water fountains (for those who love such), a 24/7 convenience store (Mini-Stop), several coffee shops (Figaro, CBTL and Cafe Adriatico to name a few), fastfood restos (Jollibee and McDo), bars, parks, and the like.

good value for Manila”
Got to the hotel for about 240 pesos from airport. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Wifi worked in common area downstairs. Actually worked a little in room. Budget room is small but perfect for a cheap place to stay in Manila. Had small ensuite bathroom with hot water. Next to pensionne is a great street side place for cheap beers and cheap food (ramen). Lots of korean places around and bars.

Home in Manila”
we have stayed at Malate Pension several times over the last ten years, and although you can get a more modern hotel, and probably for less money, you do not get the ambiance and friendliness of this place. We stay in the executive rooms, which are all well appointed, and comfortable. Normally we book direct with the hotel, but we used Agoda this time as we were traveling and had poor internet service so we wanted to confirm the booking in one internet session

Nice Stay”
Booked this as our accomodation before we got the Friday ferry with 2go over to Coron. Taxi from the airport we paid 250 & were greated by a lovely warm front desk team. We had a double room with A/C & turned out to be nice but if we were to check in again I would want a private room... Not that the shared facilitys are bad just my own choice as didnt actually know until i checked in it was shared facilitys but managed just fine even if hot water was hit or miss. The location was great just dont expect much from Manila but feels quite safe & just about everywhere has security so as long as others are about it's an ok area & would return.

Very experienced, wise, helpful management and staff!”
The hotel has a remarkable, comforting interior of narra hardwood: floors and stairs and railings, a very comfortable and pretty courtyard of natural vine shade and purple hanging flowers. Classic! If you enjoy a "home" feeling, available for backpackers, travelers and tourists, a short walk from Robinsons place mall, this is definitely the place! We (2 adults and 1 child) have been happily staying here, from our home in Puerto Princesa, during 12 years of annual visits to Manila.

Good low price hotel, good cafe down stairs”
my stay at hotel was good, easy for shops and convenience for food and resturants, staff was polite, i found that television in the room could have been better, it was a old square box tv, instead of a flat screen, not sure what other room would have been like as it was my first time, reception on some television programs wasn't there so miss out on some movie channels, need better satellite for reception to watch things, security was always greating when coming in and out of hotel, provided great service always looked after your needs like taxi or help, and asking how you where, hotel staff was great with help with a towel even though you have to bring your own, free water down stairs in wifi area, all u need is bottle, rooms need a fridge because i like cold water or drinks, and cafe shop down stairs was great after 8am for breckie always need a coffee in the morning plus cafe shop was like five stars for a place to go to for a snack like cakes or optional drinks, and shared bathroom was ok a few problems like blocked drains in one shower plus sometimes no hot water but sometimes dont need it as it hot in the bathroom anyways and hand soap for sinks to wash your hands was watered down, it was like just washing your hands with water not soap, so i always had to grab my own soap i bought to clean my hands, other than that great if your not the type of person who is fussy then great, but everything else is there.

Quite a good choice for budget room”
The nightly rate seems very good for Manila, especially the fan room. It's in the heart of Malate with convenience stores and restaurants nearby. Staff are good. Check in was rapid. It's a fine building with lots of dark wood. The fan rooms are cheap but even on maximum fan you get hot and a little sweaty. Bathrooms are communal and a little stinky. The mattress is a little hard and uneven but OK. You don't really look forward to going into the bedroom and windows are difficult to open. There is a breakfast available and coffee shop next door. But for the price it's fine, most guests will not mind the budget aspects of the place. I recommend it for budget travellers who don't mind warm rooms. I wish the fans could be fixed instead of moving

My stay at the Malate Pensionne was very okay. For as long as I go back and forth to manila, it is most certain that I will be booking my stay in this hotel. It's just like home away from home.
