peaceful and idllyic setting”
the resort is fairly big so it takes a while for things to happen but for me it suited fine as i was having a slow lazy non paced holiday. being away from k'buri town also worked in my favour as a certain type of traveller will head out 65km to pung waan and not your average noisy backpacker groups. transport is an issue and it would be good to consider hiring the bikes and riding out to enjoy the local food instead of being restricted to a fairly western dominant menu with some thai dishes. having said that, the food was good.

delightful stay in comfortable hotel”
Pung Waan was great. We loved the rooms and the big veranda that we could visit our friends on, yet be private in our own rooms. The rooms are big and spacious and the gardens are immaculately kept. Peaceful and green. This was a lovely stay in a hotel that will definitely see us again

our stay 17/12 - 21/12/08”
The resort has lovely well maintained grounds and our deluxe cottages on stilts shared a a balcony and over looked the river. The swimming pool had the added bonus of a water slide which my two children (11 & 12) thoroughly enjoyed. The food was really good, I can recommend the fried pork with garlic and pepper! The activities provided by CDR adventure are really worth doing - an elephant ride and bathing on a elephant in the river really is a must as is taking a long tail boat up the river to the death railway and then riding the train back to Nam Tok. We really got to experience the real Thailand even sharing most of the train with Thai school children on their school trip! The staff are very helpful and friendly, always smiling and polite. It is a little far out from the main attractions - Bridge of the river kwai and some museums, but we preferred this. It mainly has Thai people staying there, but we preferred this too as it was a little quieter! We had a and wonderful stay and have fabulous memories and photos!

Peaceful Riverside Setting”
The hotel has a quiet riverside setting, well away from any main road and potentially difficult to find though they will collect you from, and take you back to, (at no cost) either Nam Tok railway station or the main road bus stop by Sai Yok waterfall. Large well kept gardens run down to and along the river. Transport is difficult without your own car but there is a wide variety of excursions on offer.

Long way from anywhere”
The Pung-waan is remote, and I'm not sure how it attracts guests. Proximity to Hellfire Pass was my excuse because I needed to be at HFP at 2.00 the following morning for the dawn service. PW is a huge place, but first impressions weren't good, an unsealed dusty car park, and overgrown gardens didn't present well. My room wasn't riverfront. The room was just OK, but large, bathroom barely adequate, and the 'on the wall' instant hot water system took some figuring out until I realized that the water into it had been turned off at a stop cock. The people in the room next door didn't get that, so had cold showers. Room cleanliness was adequate, the bed comfortable and large. There was a thunderstorm during the night, and when the rain stopped, the frogs started, making sleep impossible. It's difficult to describe the noise, but I suppose disco level would approximate it, and I recorded the noise on my camera because I was sure friends wouldn't believe me. I suppose that's country Thailand though, and frogs are part of the environment?? I had to leave at 1.30 am for the ride to Hellfire Pass, so had almost no sleep as a consequence of the frogs' noise. I went alone to the restaurant for dinner, and the top level was well patronized, but not full, and I was told I'd have to wait for a table. I found it curious that there were 28 tables on the lower level unoccupied. The waiter offered the excuse that if I was given a table on the lower level everybody would want to go down there. Why anybody would want to move with their meals is quite beyond me, but that's what he said. I guess having to walk up and down stairs to serve meals didn't appeal?? Based on my experience, I wouldn't be prepared to recommend the Pung-waan.

Good service and great activities”
Very large resort area. You can spend a lot of time just relaxing in the resort itself. I like that it is situated right beside the river. However, I couldn't get a room at river front because you need a large group or they do not open the rooms there. I arranged the entire trip's activity with the hotel. They were reasonably priced and lots of options and will definitely keep you occupied. I talked to other tourists and find that they paid more for the same activity. I also managed to get a discount after bargaining for quite a bit though they said the activities are all fixed price initially. The driver designated to me was very friendly (but only speaks Thai) and even brought us to additional places not in the itenary.

Quiet riverside resort”
This is a quiet resort away from any town, they provide free transfer to / from Nam Tok railway station and the Kanchanaburi bus stop if you ask, otherwise you need a car to get around, or buy one of the several tours offered. There is a large swimming pool and big well maintained gardens along the river frontage.

Good location, but full of insects”
Hotel is in good locations, near Sai Yok waterfall. Staff is full of services. But rooms are quite far from front counter and facilities such as swimming pool, river. Also, during night time, lots of insects come into rooms, especially กิ้งกือ - look we going near nature.

Great place in the middle of nowhere”
There is a smaller hotel of the same owner in the city of Kanchanaburi. If you just plan to visit the bridge and city don't opt for the riverside location and make clear that you want to stay in the city.

Peaceful stay in riverside resort”
Extensive well kept gardens sweep down to the river with views of mountains beyond. Very big outdoor pool. A mid range resort favoured by independently travelling Thais, and not dominated large tour groups as some places are. Very quiet and peaceful setting away from the town and main road. They will pick you up (and take you back), at no additional cost, from Nam Tok train station or from a bus stop. Very good value.

Located 45mins from train station”
Pros: room size is good for two pax, not crowded. Spa staff is good but she doesn’t speak English. Cons: we got to wrong hotel called Pung-Waan remember to show address of the hotel. All guest room located level 1 so many mosquitoes if hotel can provide repellent will be good!

Pung-waan Resort Spa”
We booked with Kwai Noi but arrived at their other hotel the Spa location. It was evening and they graciously arranged for us to transfer our booking. The staff were great. The hotel and grounds are beautiful with river front views, fountains and pools and decks to sit and enjoy it all under big palm and other trees and tropical plants. The room was very nice also but who wants to be there with such nice surrounding outside.

More Care and Possibility to Upgrade”
When we had small kids and the resort is full of insects/ants, it could have been a good gesture from them to upgrade us from downstairs to upper floor. We also requested for that while booking and I think there were plenty of empty rooms in the upper floor for that. Overall it was a great stay but a small orientation at the beginning with DOs and DONTs always help people coming to stay at the 1st time.

Lovely resort by the river but a little far away”
The resort was excellent and value for money. It had very good riverside view from balcony and also some fun adventure activities like cycling, bamboo rafting etc. The rooms are quite spacious and the food in the restaurant is quite good with many options.Definitely a worth stay.
