Great Room”
The room was lovely, spacious and ample for the 3 of us, we could have had 5 adults with the size and beds available. The kitchen area was lacking a little, there was no bottle opener, not enough sharp knives/scissors to be able to prepare food and open packets. Most disappointing was that there was no hair dryer despite being advertised as all rooms having one. We asked for nearly 12 hours and kept being promised, until finally they admitted they didn’t have enough. They said they were going to buy some more but this could not happen in the time scale we were there. They fid give us a small refund on the room price

Tis would have been an amazing hotel 20 years ago, but tired and shabby. Rooms are huge and good sized kitchen, but was flooded when I arrived due to broekn fridge freezer, which was changed when I repoerted it, althought they were already aware so shold have been done anyway. A Spar very close by, gorgeous beach 5 min walk away, although very rough seas. Noisy at night as ATM by hotel entrance so continual taxis pulling in and out, people shouting etc so not much sleep!

We booked this hotel a few days before we were due to travel. Options in Albufeira were limited so we took what we could. The reviews weren’t great so we didn’t have high expectations. The main thing was lack of aircon. Temp averaged 36 degrees for the week so aircon was pretty crucial. I admit that the hotel did provide a couple of fans and a stand-alone aircon unit (which sounded like a tractor), but these weren’t really adequate. So many reviews referenced the “rude” staff. I actually felt really sorry for them. The guests were incredibly rude and unnecessarily aggressive to the staff over issues that were beyond their control. I think they handled themselves remarkably well all things considered. The owners do need to upgrade the place but the frontline staff should not be held responsible for hotel shortcomings. All in all, I can’t honestly recommend the Balaia Plaza but we got what we paid for, booked last minute and enjoyed our week. Thank-you to all the staff who handled themselves well in challenging circumstances.

I travel to many countries staying in apt / hotel accommodation, but this the worst place to choose. It stated as a 4 star accommodation, paying S$270 per day, yet I arrived to wait for about 15min for staff to attend to you. The place looks so run down, got check in and there is not air-conditioning, call operator and is not picking up. Go to the reception, ask the staff, she said there is no air-conditioning only a standing fan and ask me to check if there is a fan in the room. Check with the guest next door, the guest said there is no air-conditioning here, but had air-conditioning in the other building, but he took photo showing us that his previous room was a nightmare, curtain is torn, stain on the bedsheets, and the room was moldy. He ask for a change and was given a room next to mine, and told me that this room is better after viewing a couple of rooms, except there is no airconditioning. I did not stay there at all and left, there is no refund from agoda or from the hotel, truly disappointed.
