Pienza hotels & places to stay

It's difficult to describe how good our stay here was! Alessandro, Fabricio and their team were incredible hosts and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We joined the evening meals both nights we stayed and loved the fresh food, much of which has come from the farm / freehold, and got to sample a lot of local Tuscan dishes we otherwise would have missed out on. The room was comfortable & well appointed, with a great view and the pool (also with a great view of the surrounding rolling hills) was a perfect place to unwind after a day out exploring the nearby towns. We will definitely be going back!

You couldn’t ask for anything else in this lovely town. The B&B is situated on a small piazza in the heart of the town. Our room had a lovely little balcony overlooking the street. The building is very old but the interior has been renovated without losing its charm. Bed comfortable and bathroom new. Breakfast was superb on the rooftop terrace. Quality produce with additional homemade cakes/tarts. A communal kitchen with coffee maker, refrigerator and those cakes are available throughout the day. The host was welcoming, helpful and yet allows for privacy. Highly recommend this delightful stay.

We were in for a real treat during our two nights stay at TSP, perfectly located in between Montepulciano and Pienza, and close to many other historical towns and sightseeing locations. The house oozes with charm and character, and THAT view! With plenty of living areas to chill out, lots of space for kids to run around outside (though no crèche facilities), and a lovely pool, you can easily just chill out here all day. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast was plentiful, with fresh fruits and jams. Giuseppe’s (the owner) vineyard and allotment is located next door, to the rear of the house, set in a beautiful valley, go explore it early in the morning. The rooms were lovely and cosy, styled in a more traditional country design with lovely linen towels. The staff are all very friendly and chatty, and particularly Paola and Andrea made our stay a really memorable one.. Their own produced wine and olive oil are delicious! Definitely hope to visit here again.

We had a lovely three-day stay at this hotel. The staff were lovely, the setting was amazing and the peaceful garden and pool were lovely to return to after a busy day's sightseeing and wine-tasting. The hotel was perfectly located to visit the fabulous wineries at Montalcino and Montipulciano, and Pienza has a small selection of lovely restaurants, just enough to keep one happy for a few days (if we'd stayed any longer, we'd have burst!) The service at the hotel is very good, if a little eccentric at times. The decor is definitely 'shabby chic', but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Unfortunately, we found our bed rather uncomfortable and the pillows were pretty awful, but as we were only staying for three days, we didn't ask to be moved. We had a nice room with a beautiful view across the valley, though rooms on this side of the hotel tend to get quite hot - the rooms on the other side only have a view of the courtyard, but they face north and so are much cooler. Having said that the air-conditioning was efficient and it did cool down at night, so it was fine to sleep with the windows open - and no mosquitoes either! We had no problems with car parking - we found a free parking space every day, only a couple of minutes walk away, though do be careful with parking, as we misunderstood the signage on one day and landed ourselves with a 40 Euro ticket! Some roads have free parking on one side, but residents-only on the other, which caught us out. We had some lovely meals and can highly recommend the Latte di Luna - the food was absolutely delicious and the staff were particularly friendly. The portions are huge, but they don't mind at all if you share. The homemade hazelnut ice cream is definitely not to be missed. We would definitely stay here again and we much preferred the atmosphere of Pienza to that of any of the other surrounding villages, most of which seem to be much more mobbed by tour groups.

When we tell people we met on our travel before arriving at Monticchiello that we were headed here, everyone told us about the fabulous La Porta restaurant that we have to make a reservation here to enjoy the views across the Tuscany. The sunset views were awesome, be sure to book the best front tables way before hand for dinner. La Porta is also feature in several editions of the Michelin Guide. Dinner we had was great (esp the stew beef and chocolate cake), and price was reasonable! Monticchiello is a small tiny town, walkable on foot everywhere, and well placed in tuscany to visit the nearby Montalcino, Montepulcino, and San Gimigano a little further north. Absolutely loved the slow pace and silence in this village. The shower in the room was a bath tub, which had no screen. Hence, after showering, the whole toilet was literally flooded. I am not sure whether this was only for room 4 or all rooms. The view from the room was to the garden of this property, and i dont think it was really that great, i would just pay for the lower priced room in future. There was a coffee machine for coffee in the kitchen, tea, water free flow and open to all occupants at any time of the day. Each room also received a small bottle of complimentary sparkling wine. Despite being prices at 120euros a night, everything about this place (safe for the shower) made the price worth while.
