Samosir Cottages was the best hotel we stayed during our 2 week holidays in North Sumatera. we really had the best experience there. The hotel was modern, clean with good facilities such as 2 nice and clean swimming pools with gorgeous view over lake Toba, big, nice restaurant, nice comfortable terraces to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba,table tennis. We could also enjoy live music on Wednesday and Saturday evenings in the restaurant. The room was nice, clean with a bath tub, tv, balcony and very comfortable bed and linen of high quality and long desk, many electricity power plugs, and a fan. They did not provide AC since it was cool there. The room was quiet since it was not so close to the lake but we could enjoy the best view of the lake from their nice terraces. We are looking forward to staying at this hotel again in the future. Thank you Samosir Cottages and Agoda who had given us nice rate.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. Pros: Our room was just beside the lake, with great view and nice breeze. There are some tables and chair outside the room to relax and just enjoy the lake breeze. It's just a very basic hotel and nothing much to expect from it, given that we only paid RM225(USD55) for 2 nights. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. He helped us to get a driver for a day tour around Samosir and also assisted us to book our bus transportation back to Medan. Breakfast was good, not buffet, there's a menu to choose from, offering both western and local food. Cons: There's no fan installed in the room, it can be a little stuffy and warm at night when you close the curtains. If you open them, the mosquitoes will come in. Also, the water heater is not working at times. Both our blankets and towels had stains on them. Overall, I would say it's satisfactory. Not too good and not too bad.

I really enjoyed my stay. First i like the part that the boat from Parapat stop in front of the hotel. Easy to check in. The staff Ribka (Rebecca) and Daniel was so accomodating. The room is so clean. No aircond because the temperature is cold and suitable for sleeping. The hotel is 4 stories so you have to go up and down staircase to go have breakfast or to the receptionist. But i have no problem with that. Eventhough the breakfast is simple but all are delicious. I especially like the fried tempe. The view is spectacular. There is swimming pool too or you can swim or kayak in Lake Toba just in front of the Hotel. Ribka arranged a motorbike rental for us too. They even packed our breakfast because we need to take the earliest ferry. I am a frequent traveller and this is our 8th anniversary trip. I was really happy during my stay and will be back to Zoe’s Paradise if i plan to come to Pulau Samosir again. Never wrote this long review for any hotel but this place is so worth it

Everything is almost perfect about this hotel. There is nothing I can complaint about. The room is very clean, the garden and surrounding is nice. The bed is sooooo comfortable until I feel like I didn't want to wake out of the bed. The receptionist is friendly. This place is just perfect for whom who seeks quiet and peaceful surrounding. If I were to repeat the trip to Toba Lake, I definitely will stay again in Toba Village Inn. There was a bad experience when we were about to take a ferry from Parapat to Samosir Island. We were approached by one Batak guy when we were still on the ferry. He asked us where to stay (he works with Samosir Villa and hopes that we could follow him to check in at Samosir Villa, hence hires him as a tourist guide when we were in Samosir). When I said I'll stay at Toba Village Inn and already booked the hotel through Agoda, he suddenly get mad and angry. He said, when the tourists booked everything through the Internet, they are actually close the opportunity for the local people to get a job. He scolded me and said, "next time, don't come here at all!!!". 2 to 3 times he said such thing. And he kept on nagging about the Internet thing. I feel so furious!!! How can a local people said something like that to the tourists?? We spent our money at your place, how dare you said something rude and unwelcome words to us!! We have the right to book our hotel through Agoda or local people. It's our money anyway. Except from this incident, I'm really happy with my stay in Samosir Island.

Is the right choice to stay here with my children and my parents. The owners and staff are very friendly and always helpful at all times. Very good food, beautiful scenery and children can play as much. Many free facilities provided, there is a mini zoo that makes our children happy and be not lazy get up early to immediately feed it. Really makes us feel at home and we will be sneaking here again when the upcoming holiday is Samosir.

The Hotel was located very conveniently right in the centre of Tuk Tuk next to prominent amenities like Atm, restaurants and services. Having previously stayed at Mas Cottages, where we had an amazing stay for the price (half of Silintong) we changed hotel as we wanted to upgrade to a star hotel with amenities and more comfort. However I must say, after packing $35 per night, I was very disappointed by what I got. The hotel rooms had no air conditioning even though the Agoda post showed the hotel has air conditioning. In the room, the toilet and bed were clean but many equipment in the toilet were partially broken like the flush. The Hotel also provided hot water only between 8-10 am and pm which was shocking because Mas Cottage offered hot water on demand throughout the day. I was really disappointed. The massage lady that walks around the hotel Lawns, keeps pestering guests to go for massage. The hotel otherwise could have been a good experience if not for what it promises and the price is charged. Food wise, I had another shock when they did not offer vegetarian breakfast even though during check in, the receptionist told me they can prepare vegetarian for me. When I went for breakfast, I was charged money for toast because they could not prepare vegetarian for me.

We had an awesome experience at this place. The staff was super friendly, the food was AMAZING, the rooms were clean, they let you rent motorbikes and have free kayaks too. Oh and the restaurant is amazing. Best food we had in 6 weeks of backpacking through SEA. So happy I booked this, and for a good deal on Agoda. Loved Lake Toba and especially loved Romlan. Downsides: WiFi can be a little slow, we had ants in our room, and the restaurant is not overly cheap so the bill can add up (I think we spent more on meals then on the room). Also there is no beach area, where you climb down into the water is slippery rocks that can be sharp so be careful. Stray cats can be a little annoying at the restaurant so just give them a good swat and they will leave you alone. Overall this place is great and I give them 5/5 stars. I would love to stay there again.

My second time around. Friendly staff Maria welcomed me. I har a different room this time. Only one light in the room.The TV was good but only in Indonesian. It showed some Kdramas n American movies without dubbing so it was the only entertainment in town in the low season. Best local food was in Parapat. Samosir is little pricy but fun. The cottage next door has a swimming pool.

My friend & I stayed at ground floor room for 2 nights. Each room directly facing a very beautiful clean landscape with superb view of the lake, which you can also see it from your balcony or from inside the room..it is amazingly beautiful & relaxing! The hotel is a new hotel equipped with good wifi connection, hot shower, towels, towel rack, wardrobe, and very comfortable bed. It is very clean. It also has private jetty for ferry to/from parapat. You can deal with the staff to rent motorbike or bicycle, they are very friendly & helpful. For muslim friends, there are 3 muslim restaurants that we know, the nearest is "monggo" (if not mistaken) just walk few meters to the left of the hotel and at the restaurant you can enjoy your meal with beautiful view. We love staying at the hotel and will surely comeback for the very nice & warm hospitality, and of course the magnificent view!

I just enjoyed myself with my wife.rent a motorbike through the hotel rupiah75000 only(remember ask for discount,or they will offer rupiah85000)...staffs are very helpful but remember asking for hot water time(morning6-8am,evening6-8pm)...electricity always on and off,but it has a clean room with moderate breakfast.if u are budget traveler,only want to have a good and cosy sleep,this lakeside budget hotel is ur best choice(nothing can complaint with this price)...biking around the island is a great experience,don't have to worry about the safety at samosir island,the local I met,mostly very friendly....enjoy food at local restaurants,superb cheap,freshly catch lake fish only rupiah30000-35000(I don't think city can offer this price)...even others seafood u can get reasonable price...

Best location in Samosir. You might not think so at first but if what you crave is peace, quiet, serenity and views to die for... this is the ONLY choice. Let's not fool ourselves... nothing on Samosir represents a luxury hotel. BRING YOUR OWN wine, (+ glasses), biscuits, snacks, shampoo, slippers etc. Food served in the restaurant is OK. Best stick to their very tasty breakfast noodles rather than expecting a full-on American job. Pancakes, omelettes etc also good. Local sweet milk coffee is fab. Order the milk on the side so you can sweeten to taste. Place can feel a bit remote if shopping is your thing and you can't ride one of their motor-scooter rentals. Bur after doing all that stuff, it was a treat to come "home" to Mas. Staff were nothing but charming and cheerful. A truly MEMORABLE stay with the wife and teenage "kids". Not for young families.

We love this villa so much, it's a newly build European style villa. One nearest neighbor we have is 30 meters away. The air flow inside this villa is incredible. There's a restaurant within 1 minutes walk, they provide western and batak foods and straight next to lake Toba. If you want to go to a "crowded" area which has a lot of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, you can reach it within 10-15 minutes by bike. Ask for the owner. The owner really attentive to us, he drove tissue rolls every day, known that we are group of 12 (he allow us to stay with reasonable extra charge). He give us wifi quota, 500mb a day. If you need anything urgently to ask, he's willing to be contacted even though it's already late night.

I stay in Toba Cats Garden 3 nights. The room is very spacious. The toilet is clean. And the view to Toba Lake is great. Toba Cats Garden is near to Bukit Beta hill. I enjoy hiking there. Surrounding Toba Cats Garden, you can find Western food, local food and Tuak(local rice wine). Uncle Bond also very friendly and helpful. He bring me to find local food where many local people go. He even accompany me to Parapat although I had check out the hotel at the last day to ensure me can get transportation to airport.

Convenient location at Tuk Tuk. The balcony view facing the lake is superb! The owner will wait for you when your ferry arrives at the jetty of the hotel and will arrange the ferry from Samosir to Tiga Raja when you check out. You can walk to the nearby restaurants for breakfast and dinner. This hotel provides a day tour with a private van with a cost so that you can tour around Samosir Island easily. The water pressure during morning shower will be low if the other guests shower around the same time. Otherwise it is a good hotel and will recommend others to stay here.

No hot water no TV No shower nozzle but a basin of water that can be used for The job. Also the toilet doesn't flush so need to use the bucket to do the job. Still better than camping but not comfy for a western backpackers. The staff speak almost no English but will try to help. Mostly local only but the view was the best and the rate was low so I can't complain too much.

The family of aman was very helpful, and the room is newly renovated and has everything you need for A Nice relaxing stay on samosir Island! The room was clean, the bed was perfekt, andre view outstanding! Would recommend to everyone! For the low Price of about 200.000 rupiah Per Night I dont see any place to spend these Money better, for the service they give! And try out Their food it's perfect! And their chapati with guacamole is just spot on!!

They moment we stepped into the place, we were very satisfied The whole place is so comfortable, we didn't wanna go out anymore. The furniture and the interior design is warm and relaxing. Perfect for a relaxation time out. They also have a wonderful bath tub where u can bring your own bath bombs. The Caretaker is very friendly and helpful All services provided are priced value for money. They even help us to prepare a barbecue menu for our last night and we grill just outside the villa. We end the dinner with a freshly plucked coconut from the tree just outside the villa. Perfect moment well spent at this place Highly recommended to come again
