Where to stay in San Francisco (CA)
San Francisco (CA) hotels & accommodations

I stayed at Hotel Nikko recently for three nights. I’ve stayed in San Francisco to visit our daughter many times, typically at the Westin St Francis. For this stay, I decided to try Hotel Nikko and am so glad I did! The room I had was beautifully appointed, the staff, from the front desk to the doorman and housekeeping were incredibly helpful, fun and thoughtful. I ...

We rolled into San Francisco on an evening flight and we waited for an hour before the shuttle showed up standing in the cold. We called a few times but it only came an hour later. As we got into the hotel, the front desk lady told me sh couldn't find my reservation and later we realised that I had booked the hotel a day later (I made a mistake and booked the room for ...

Located in a prime area in union sq. The room is big and spacious compared to the rest of the hotels in San Francisco. However, there are no free wifi in the rooms. It is only available in the hotel lobby. BUt the hotel does provides ample seats and tables for guests in the hotel lobby. So you can bring your laptop down for surfing or work.

Ideally located for the LGBTQIA+/Leather/kink traveller, the Hotel Whitcomb is directly opposite Sam’s Diner, has a BART station just steps away, a leisurely half hour stroll to the Castro, and only a few blocks from Mr S Leather and Wicked Grounds. The room was clean and well presented, with beautifully comfortable beds. Some reviews have talked about street noise and...

The hotel was very clean and had modern facilities. The location was great -- very near the BART, Muni stations and the shopping center. Although the general area is not considered that safe, the short walking distance to the hotel from public transportation and shopping establishments helped us feel more secure. The room was fairly large and the beds and pillows were ...

We really enjoyed our stay at Serrano Hotel. This hotel has a ton of character and each staff member I encounter was delightful. The location of the hotel made the city accessible on foot which was a plus. I will definitely stay at Serrano the next time I'm in San Francisco.

Granted: the area - at the edge of the Tenderloin - may not the best, but given the (for European standards) simply insane prices for hotel rooms elsewhere in San Francisco, this was excellent value for money. In contrast to many other - much more expensive - hotels I've seen in the city, which claim to be newly built or renovated but already have a somewhat shabby lo...

No hotel in San Francisco is cheap. Especially one so close to tourist areas like this one is. They will all try to nickel and dime you, charging US$5 for a bottle of water, and this place is no exception. So I certainly can’t say that this place was a good value... especially after paying almost US$70 to park overnight. Besides the typical San Francisco exorbitance...

Very nice hotel. Room was spacious, bathroom had nice facilities, and more importantly it was clean! Staff were also very friendly and accommodating. Two downfalls are that the carparking fee of $25 per day is quite steep as there is no other place to park within the area and the other downfall is that the hotel is quite far from San Francisco city. Nevertheless, the h...

I booked through Agoda for one night. Was supposed to pay $183 plus tax. Checked my bank account now and saw that the hotel charged me $290. What the hell? Called and they said they charged lodging fees. I asked them why wouldn’t they tell me at the time of the check in. Too bad because the location is nice but nope not going back. Dishonest business!

I changed rooms 3 times and they never gave me any additude they wanted me to be happy I will always stay here when in San Francisco .. the staff is so great really nice and the door man is a great guy every tip for a good place to eat was perfect .. keep it up guys .. FYI I have stayed in very expensive hotels in the past and there staff is nothing compared to this s...

At the arrival we had a surprise of 30 USD per day as facility fee!? and then we have received our room at the ground floor (this was even lower Than the ground floor.) Then we have requested another room and they provided immediately on 3rd floor. The Hotel should not have 4* we had better equipment/cleaner/modern room in 2-3* hotels during our US trip. The hotel does...

Th e Coyote Point Best Western was a great addition to our itinerary. The hotel was reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful in booking us another night when our vacation plans fell apart on us on one leg of our trip. They also had a wonderful breakfast. We found them to be very convenient to the airport and downtown San Francisco.

We decided to stay at the Mystic Hotel whilst in San Francisco for our honeymoon. The staff were courteous and helpful, the hotel is in an excellent location, breakfast daily was more than adequate and filled us up well beyond lunchtime, the rooms were very clean and tidy and there were complimentary choc chip cookie's available each day (the cherry on the top). You wi...

Truly, the heart of San Francisco—- I had my hesitations of going to such a fancy hotel. First, most hotels— have that modern and future feel, however the Fairmont in San Francisco is Not like that. This carries heart and soul. A place that makes you feel you deeper in San Francisco, you felt you went in to a time machine. The Fairmont is truly a vacation and experienc...

Very nice and clean. Super friendly and helpfull staff, Thu Nhi, she´s the best..! Excellent location!! But... they charge us at the end $ 22 dollars PER DAY for WiFi service, what is RIDICULOUS when you´re paying that kind of rate, it is NOT a cheap place, and WIFI is a service they should provide for free...! Our time in San Francisco was great and Stanford hotel wa...

We booked the Griffon for our first few days in California, and having stayed there we booked it again for our last days (in between we did a road trip) because it was pretty much perfect for us. The location is excellent, just a few blocks from the 'Ferry Building' which is a 'must visit' destination but also a great place to go for coffee, lunch, dinner, etc. and one...

This was a great place for our family. The location was perfect for us, it was in a clean and safe area with lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance and a Target/Trader Joe’s less than a mile away. It was just off the Bay Bridge entrance and very easy to get into San Francisco and to all the touristy areas, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, China Town and...

Stayed for 5 nights. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel also provides a jug and water coolers. Very ideal if you are there for business since it's just a couple of blocks to the financial district. Chinatown is just next to it, if you fancy chinese food. The retail area is very much within walking distance too. The room cleaning wasn't up to standard though. The ho...

One of the best locations to stay at in San Francisco. It's right in the heart of shopping, in front of the trolley stop and near Bart. The rooms are clean and nice plus pet friendly. I'm a solo traveler and I feel safe in this area alone even at night.
Cheap places to stay in San Francisco (CA)

Beds are squeaky n mattresses are thin. Public bathroom shower is a lil dirty, building is old. But if you need a place to rest urs head & gear while meet some interesting travelers this is he place to be. Wifi was good! Can't beat the price & practicality.

This is the day I stay in the Amsterdam Hostel, and I am glad to have the chance to stay in this hostel. When arriving in the hostel, I was asked by Amsterdam staff at the front desk saying that "May I have your id?" That 's the most memorable part I remembered in my trip. I have to admitted that staying in a 4 bed room makes me a little uncomfortable; however, I am ve...

This is the best hostel that I've ever lived! I don't know what to say but wow, wow, and wow! Scenery around this hostel is super amazing. It's about 40 to 50 minutes driving to downtown San Fransisco, and also the same time driving to San Jose. Strongly recommend this hostel to everyone who wants travel in San Fransisco!

we really enjoyed our stay at music city hotel. the hotel has a great location, very close to a lot of restaurants where you can eat dinner and breakfast and close to multiple bus lines, so it is easy to get your way around town. the hotel is music themed, with a lot of photo's or artists. the staff was very helpfull, they even found a great place for us to see a conce...

I was unexpectedly in San Francisco for 24 hours with a missed connection. I found travelodge on agoda with a very competitive price. It was strangely hot for October, so the photo of the pool got my attention. SFO info directed me to the free shuttle bus and I was at their door 2.30pm for 3pm check in. After waiting 5 minutes the friendly staff directed me and my ...

Nice place for my trip in San Francisco. The location is very convenient for me to travel to wherever I want to go. In addition, the staff are so nice that help me a lot. This hotel is highly recommend to you if you are planning to have a wonderful journey in SF.

this hotel is actually a good choice for people come to san francisco to have a vacation, suitable price, good supplies inside the room : television, refrigerator, microwave...it's clean and has a nice view to the city. however the entrance is quite small, the frontdesk is in the 2nd floor, and if you have a lot of luggage, it's problem, 'cause u have to carry them by u...

Very good location in downtown San Francisco. Walking distance to BART. Clean and comfortable rooms. The restrooms are not always clean but that's not usually a problem. The TV is small and old, but hey, for this price what would you expect? Overall, an excellent experience.

The area is not for the timid. Just a few steps away from the 16th St BART station, you will walk through the darker side of humanity to get to this hotel. It is a clean, basic 2 star hotel. I’ve seen other reviews and quite frankly, if you go for the cheapest rate and expect 5 star accommodations your are going to be sorely disappointed. This is a 2 star, be prepared....

I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the hotel. Also that there were amenities, microwave, fridge, blow dryer, iron/board, etc. The breakfast was pretty decent too. Greek yogurt! Who does that? Even the 4 star hotels only do Yoplait usually. It looks a little scary on the outside and it's in the Cow Palace neighborhood, but we loved it for the price. If yo...

Shuttle service available was good but not best schedule. Wait can be inconvenient. Otherwise, if you have a 6 hour or less red eye layover, this does the job for a comfortable bed and shower. And want to be close to SFO. Lyft is estimated $10 if you don’t want to wait for shuttle. But overall a two star motel.

Casa Loma is nothing special but certainly everything you need in San Francisco. Staff are really friendly and helpful, facilities are very clean and the location is just far away enough from downtown to feel safe. Parking can be annoying but that is anywhere in San Francisco. Much easier to find a park on the weekend. Great value for money.

I am on the road for buisness in San Francisco for 3 months now. I have stayed in a dozen hotels in the city over 3 months. The Sweden house hotel is by far. The best one for the value. The staff at the hotel have treated great and have been very helpful.

For San Francisco on a budget this was a great, convenient hotel to stay at - just down the road from Union Square & very handy to the cable cars (one of the stops is straight across the road). I do recommend to book in advance so that you get a cheaper deal & make sure you book a room with an ensuite. I had a Queen shared bathroom & while the amenities were clean, th...

Okay as a young female solo traveller who likes nice things but can compromise, here are the good and bad: BAD: $12 a day for parking that isn't even security parking, it's just outside hotel in an open area, near street. GOOD: The bed and sheets are very clean and so comfy. BAD: The washing sink is outside bathroom, near front door a little weird but works fine. GOOD:...

This is very nice hotel! But I have to admit that what makes special is the manager Mike! He will go above and beyond to make sure that you will enjoy your stay there. I really appreciate his willingness to help and very friendly attitude! The rooms are clean, aircon is working, room service is polite and very efficient. I can recommend this place to anyone!

It's an older building, and it shows. The windows don't have safety mechanisms to keep it from opening all the way. The elevator is tiny and slow. We had a hard time opening our hotel room door, and it used a real key instead of a key card. And frankly... I loved it. It's quiet, has a good location near some good bars, and it felt like staying in San Francisco would ha...

This is an OK hotel. Certainly nothing special. The rooms are small and older but they are clean and all the essentials work. The wireless internet connection was slow as a sundial. The breakfast was nut bread, coffee and cereal. Overall if you are just on a one night layover its OK. It is a long way to all the attractions of downtown San Francisco. This is for tra...

had a layover in San Francisco hence was choosing for a hotel that is near the airport and decent. knew that best western is pretty decent and famous in the states hence gave it a try. and most of all there is free wifi around the inn which not most hotel would provide around the area. we had a room each with a queen size bed. the stay was comfortable, room was clean a...

This was my second time staying at Orchard Hotel, San Francisco. This hotel is located 5 blocks away from Powel Cable Car Turn Around, walking distance to any spot within downtown San Francisco. The hotel is not a big hotel, however, its quality is second to none. Big and super comfortable bed with big bathroom. The staff was very helpful with great service mind. I do ...

Being an old hotel is not always a bad thing in a high tech city like San Francisco. The rooms and bathroom are much bigger than the normal room. But things like WiFi can be slow. There is also lots of paid parking if you drive. The check in and out is efficient and staffeta are friendly. Food is not great but Ok. This hotel has an airport shuttle so it is also conve...

Arrived earlier and they allowed me to check in earlier which was great! Location is very good, close to the malls and restaurants. Room and bathroom were very clean. Their bedroom slippers are so premium (you have to request). Felt that some staff could be a little more friendlier. Or perhaps people in San Francisco are just like that. Overall it's pretty good hotel!

Great location, next to China town, close to Union square and transport hub. The room was a good size, very comfortable and clean. We were on the 7th floor with a super view and it was quiet. It was a shame there wasn't coffee making facilities in the room and it was only available from 7 until 10 am in reception. Otherwise a great hotel.

Usually stay at another hotel in San Francisco downtown, but they are charging very high rate during the period I would like to stay. So decided to try out Intercontinental, I think I will stay here again in the future because the location is really great, it was an easy access to all shops and restaurants in downtown, it is also next to a park and the convention cent...

The most best service we receive thus far is from DOUBLETREE. Check-in was smooth and the walnut cookie- yum yum yum!!!! Our room was clean and overlooking the sea just how I wished. All the staffs are extremely polite, kind and so helpful. We would definitely recommend friends and family to stay here. Thank you Doubletree for making our honeymoon a memorableone in San...

We stayed for one night before a long-haul flight. Check-in was quick and efficient. The room was spacious, and if there was a little scuffing on some surfaces, it didn't detract from the overall comfort of the room. Our room was quite quiet despite the proximity to the airport. Unfortunately, our view was unattractive (mainly over a drainage ditch and a roof), but a...

location, location and location ! was our priority, very well known hotel in san francisco, we were impressed by their services, fast responses from house keeping and their daily breakfast are amazing specially during fine weather in the morning side setting from their top floor i'd such a brearth taking. cleanliness also should be given applause we felt wonderful exp...

This was the first time my boyfriend had visited San Francisco and I wanted to book a hotel in the city but convenient since we didn't have a car. But I was hesitant since I read a lot of negative reviews about...

this was our first time in san francisco and our travel agent spent hours searching for the right hotel and the best rate. he knoes san francisco well and found the westin san francisco market street hotel, a 5* hotel, in a wonderful location. we were more than happy with this hotel, the facilities and friendliness of the staff. and the rate we paid through adoga was a...

Definitely the most happening hotel in San Francisco. As you walk in your eyes are hit with all patterns of wall papers, designer furnitures and ultra cool looking staff. Staff are all very friendly. Very centrally located, walking distance to most places. It was perfect as we were there to attend a wedding in City Hall and it was just down the street. In room dining...

Hotel room was very comfortable, big two queen size beds, nice tv, nice view i mean i really liked it. Japan town is just a great place to be in, san francisco can get to you, but japan town just puts you in the zone you feel everything is ok, such a clean and elegant part of town i love it. I liked it all Hotel and the area around, buss is just in front of the hotel...

My adult daughter and I stayed at Club Quarters on a Saturday night, I was surprised to get such an amazing deal on the room, especially after reading so many positive reviews. We booked Agoda for one night to add to a previous Taj four night reservation. The deal was much better that what was available directly from the hotel. We had interconnecting rooms for California King (the smallest ...

San Francisco is amazing destination for who like metropolitan city as well as nature, many different shopping area and attractions especially in Fisherman Wharf areas
Nice place to travel to for short sight seeing trips. Most of the nicer places to visit is outside of San Fran city.
Fun city, some cool things to check out. Get the CityPass if there for more than a few days, well worth the money- for $94 you get public transport for a week, Alcatraz, Exploratorium, California Academy of Science and the Aquarium.
This is a great city with lots to do. Here is a list of must do's when you are there -Alcatraz Island - Golden Gate Bridge Tour - Market Street shopping - PIers / Warf - SS Jerimiah OBrian - Cable Cars - China Town - Golden Gat Park Seagway Tour (AMAZING) Watch out for the homless people, keep moving don't stand still in the street.
I've been traveling to San Francisco for the last 50 years it never gets old, I will continue to enjoy all it has to offer.
Ask taxi driver to tour you around and to visit different property area (remember to visit Hillsborough for comparision!)
Taxi drivers are nice, though I heard that San Francisco has the most expansive taxi fare, even higher than New York City, so try to use other transportation as much as possible.
Stayed on Market St. near the Civic Center. Bad smell (due to urine) and dirty streets. Walk at your own risk.
Need to stay more than 3 day for discover the places in San Francisco. The people was nice and helpful.
I want to stay here with my family ! Great city with lots to do as a couple or a family. Close to nature, exciting city and friendly to new ideas
Premier city to visit - great opportunities for interesting cuisine, good nightlife, unique neighborhoods.
I love San Francisco! There's so much to do and see (Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, Union Square, Fisherman's Warf, Alcatraz, Pershing Square, Chinatown, Palace of Fine Arts, etc.
The best places to visit are Japantown, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Financial District, AT&T Park. Make sure to see the jewel of the city, Queen Anne Hotel.
It's a beautiful city with a colourful history that can be seen while visiting the many attractions it has to offer.
Go to fisherman's market and have some clam chowder at stand. You do not necessarily have to get in restaurants.
Please go beyond 2 nights. 3-5 nights is the minimum for you to enjoy San Francisco. The must visit places are Alcatraz, Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf (they said it's the 2nd most visited places after Disneyland), Golden Gate Bridge, and Union Square (for shopping paradise).
Downtown, near Aida hotel is so bloody filthy and dirty and the smell is terrible, there seem to be more, and more homeless hanging around that area, it's unbelievable.
Get out the city everything you need to see is outer sub areas witch are much nicer it's easy to just get in the car go for a drive out to find cheap parking everywhere.
The Chinatown within San Francisco is one of the oldest Chinese enclaves in the world. You can find eateries that offer surprisingly good quality cuisine at reasonable prices there.
Nice city, great public transport, major tourist attractions are accessible by public transport. Good idea to purchase city pass to have unlimited travel on public transport.
Loved the city. nice laidback feel with rolling streets. everything is convenient and close by to the city centre.
SF is good, especially all the Piers. City cleanliness is not what i expected though (being a city of a well developed nation).
San Francisco is a filthy city that is saturated with the homeless on nearly every street. Its buildings are decadent although some may find that appealing because it has "character.
San Francisco is a diversified city, with fine weather and beautiful scenary. People are friendly. Public transport is convenient.
Walking around is so easy in San Francisco. Get a bus pass and hop on and off at your leisure. Most beautiful city in the USA in my opinion.
SAN FRANCISCO IS RELATIVELY SMALL. BUT ITS QUITE A DISTINCT CITY, WITH ITS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE SEA AND ITS HISTORY.
Great places to see and lots to do. Make sure you hire bikes and ride from fisherman's wharf over the Golden Gate Bridge the get the ferry back great day
THE DIFFERENT HOMES IN THE LOCATION IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CITY. VICTORIAN, THE BEACH HOUSES, EVERYTHING WAS UNIQUE,
Just go there and walk - everywhere! See the city - the tourist areas and the local areas. It's a very different city than many others that you find in North America.
San Fran is a big city with lots of homeless people. they are not aggressive but they are everywhere and they will ask you for some change every time you walk past them.
