Trincomalee hotels & places to stay

The staff were very attentive, friendly and efficient. We were two friends having a short break and enjoyed the relaxing time we had there. The sea eagles were a sight to see when the fish were being hauled in. Whilst there was a bit of a swell to the waves the sea was basically safe for swimming for those able to do so. The food was very good and with the option of eating at The Crab restaurant on the same site there was a range of food styles to choose from. We flew to Trincomalee airport which is not that far from the hotel however the transport was expensive at Rs4,000/= it is best to use a three-wheeler (having first agreed the price) rather than have a van or car, Rs800/= is a good price to pay currently. The three wheeler we used had probably the most honest driver I have experienced in my six years in Sri Lanka.

We have visited the hotel in early August and it was one of the best places in Sri Lanka. The hotel is new and modern, there are 2 excellent swimming pools and great outdoor terrace for breakfast and dinner. Having said that, our stay has not been without problems. We have booked a sea view room, but we got a room on 1st floor with an ugly view to the roof on the adjacent building. We have complained, but the staff in reception told us that this the room we paid for and there are no other vacancies. The whole issue has finally been elevated to the level of a hotel manager who moved us to the high floor room the following day and compensated for the night in substandard room with a free dinner buffet. The rest of our stay was pleasant and without further problems. Food was good; buffet was not the largest, but the dishes were tasty and the chef was always happy to prepare something special. So, with a better attitude from the staff this hotel would be a success.

We were staying in this hotel for 5 nights at the end of trip around Sri Lanka. We decided that we rather choose 5 stars hotel in Trincomalee instead of going for the same price on Maldives in hotel 3 stars. Everything was excellent. Rooms are big, clean, staff is cleaning the room 3 times in day. Food was delicious and very nice prepared. Especially breakfast - amazing. Beach is clean, nobody is there all around, so you can really enjoy every single minute. Staff is very friendly and they are gorgeous. Only internet wifi is a little bad covered in the room. It is working in the restaurant and bar and reception.

Nice hotel located at the beach of Trincomalee with a nice pool and an aisle, which connects the hotel directly to the beach. The room was spacious and well-equipped (TV, fridge, ceiling fan, water boiler with coffee and tea, AC). At the breakfast you can coose from a good variety of western and sri-lankan stlye food, also eggs and omeletes are freshly prepared. The hotel is close to some nice restaurants on the beach and great activities can be booked either trough the hotel or tour agents on the beach (cheaper). I would really recommend a snorkeling tour at the Pigeon Island! nice corral reef with myn fishes, riff sharks and turtles. The only down-side was that the Wi-Fi did not work in our room!

This is a very nice hotel right next to the beach. All amenities to have a comfortable stay is available. Very good view from 01st and 2nd rooms. Best rooms are located at the second floor but know that there is no elevator. Beds are comfy. Good Quality Linen. Good Housekeeping. Very friendly and helpful staff at all areas. Child friendly facilities. Excellent service at all areas. Delicious food, specially seafood at reasonable prices. Nice beach. Very close to the city and major attractions of Trincomalee. Secured parking within the hotel premises. Large ground, well maintained green and a cricket pitch. Swimming pool is nicely located in shades. Beautiful landscaping. Greenery everywhere. Only downside is that rooms are bit smaller but not to the extend of creating any discomfort.

We treated ourselves to 3 nights with an upgrade to poolside at the park which was well worth it. The only downside is that the menu was a little limited for european tastes. The young staff are keen to learn English so please be patient. The tuk tuk transfer to the sister hotel on the beach is an added bonus. The owner very kindly took us back to the park in his car rather than wait 5 minutes for a tuk tuk. The young lady on reception was very attentive inviting us to share a festive breakfast on a hindu celebration day. All in all we would definately revisit this establishment, we have stayed in over 10 hotels/homestays in the past month throughout Sri Lanka this was the best to date. Thankyou for such an enjoyable stay.

My host, Mr Joseph is one of the most dedicated in the business. From his (well-educated / excellent English) friendliness to his absolute concern for my well-being he was the key to my enjoyment of Trincomalee. How about a host who actually goes to the bus station to sit/occupy a bus seat while ringing a tuk-tuk to collect me from Trobiko so that he could be sure Ihad a seat to Jaffna!! Service doesn’t come better than that.

Not a 5 star hotel by any means,but if you are looking for a basic,clean and simple place to chill out for a few days, this is the place. I had one of the cottages which was quite roomy with a double and single bed with mosquito nets. No hot water,but who needs it ? Good meals in pleasant dining area and reasonably priced. No credit card facilities,so remember to take cash.

Love this place. Nikesh the staff member here is absolutely amazing, always smiling, nothing is trouble for him to do and he work ethic and customer service is incredible, he is always doing something. The first thing I noticed as I opened the door to my room was how spotless clean it was. The location is great, just a short walk to the beach. There is no restaurant on site yet but I think it's the owners or managers sister has a restaurant round the corner. The wifi is good, it just depends how many people are on it. Nice area outsid the room to sit,read, work on my computer. They don' t hassle you for tours etc and arranging a tuk tuk to trincomalee station at 6am was easy and the cheapest quote I had as well. Also the manager took me on the back of his bike to get a beer which was super kind. If I were to really pick a fault the bathroom is a little small and dated but it had no reflection on how great the place was. We tipped Nikesh on leaving because he really is a great guy and worker, it would be nice if more people did the same.

We loved our stay at Bella. They have cabanas on the beach, so you can sit out on the shore and enjoy the sand and waves without baking in the heat. The beach is quiet and clean. The restaurant is on the beach, in the shade and the food is well priced and tasty. The staff is lovely and leaves you to do your own thing, which is really nice. They were there when we needed them but not in our face, never trying to sell us on their trips, etc. The family is very sweet and little Leo is the cutest! They have paddle boards for rent at 400 Rs, which is great. We stayed in the rooms (rather than the huts). The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom worked great. And, it was only a few seconds walk to the beach! All around great stay! The only complaint was their snorkling trip to Pigeon Island, which we would not recommend. The guide abandoned us in the rough waters (and there are sharks out there!) and the equipment was awful. Go down the beach ten minutes to Niaveli Dive center and pay a little more to take a much better trip. We really loved snorkeling at Pigeon Island, we went twice...and from what we heard, it was much better, as in one could see more diversity of marine life, on the snorkeling tours vs the scuba tours. Both times we went, we saw sharks, sea turtles, barracuda, sea urchins, and tons of colorful fish. Great time!

We have booked a standard room which was not available at the moment we arrived ( it was fully booked ), however the staff was very friendly and didn´t put us to the lowest budget room ( usually offered to taxi drivers ) but offered us to stay at their top level room, for the same price, with sea view, TV, A/C and a big bathroom. Thanks to this the stay was lovely. Next to us stayed a couple, which had the same problem 2 days before us, however worse experience with the staff performance. Food was very nice.

This place is a little outside (7kms, 350-400LKR tuktuk fare) away from Trincomalee town but is nice and quiet and perfect to relax after a trip to town or Upaveli/Nilaveli. It's run by a very caring family who make sure you're comfortable. Rooms have air conditioning. Trinco is short on good food places but we had some of the best Sri Lankan food of our entire trip here.

Hotel located between Upuveli and Trincomalee, outside downtown. The garden was clean and quiet. Good AC and fan, good Wi-Fi in the room, large bathroom. Room a little noisy. The shower isn't convenient and not so clean, but the WC and sink are good. The only problem that we found was the shower. The staff is truly helpful, concerned and help you solve your problems and negociate tuktuk and transportation out of town. Good advices of beaches and outdoor activities. The breakfast is good and service excelent.

Excellent place if you enjoy beach life. We heard the snorkelling was good, though we did not try it. Swimming was safe and the beach was clean. Breakfast, lunch and dinner if you want, but we thought it was a bit pricey. Kadira is very helpful and booked us a car to our next destination. The dolphin trip was great, and we saw the sunrise as a bonus for getting out of bed early. Our room had 2 double beds but only one top sheet and the air con was fierce so we woke every night to turn it on and off several times. Another bad thing was the smelly bathroom ( room 2) and a constant noise from some compressor outside. No window. We enjoyed our stay despite the drawbacks but the price was somewhat high for what you get.

We booked and paid ahead of time through Agoda, we arrived late and the owner wasn't happy with us because he "could have given the room to someone else", even though there wasn't anyone else staying there!! Not the best way to start - we'd already paid for the room!! Breakfast was included and on the first morning it was pretty good. The kothu made up for the cold toast. The second morning however, we were served only cold toast! Not even any jam or anything to put on it! What a joke! We also got locked out one night after arriving home from dinner at 10pm. Would never stay here again.
