Where to begin? I stayed here for my 50th birthday with three friends. On arrival at check-in was greeted with a glass of cava. I booked 2 rooms and both were upgraded. Wow, a lovely room. Comfy beds, lovely linen, big fluffy towels, slippers, dressing gown...the bathroom was minimalist, monsoon shower. good toiletries including bath salts! The room had nespresso machine and a free mini-bar with water, coke, beer, crips and smarties! At night we had a turn down service. The sky bar and roof-top pool was great - that was the main reason I booked and I was not disappointed. The staff were amazing. Jaime, one of the managers was exceptional. I gave some feedback about an issue which he said was appreciated. He came to see me personally (it was a small niggle - and I hope he didn't go away thinking I was a complete moaner!). The front staff were very helpful. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble. I'd love to return. It is fabulous! Go stay!

A Lovely boutique hotel situated centrally in Madrid, only minutes walk from most major attractions in Centro. The moment you walk in, your luggage is carried to your room for you. Lovely smell of the entrance and lobby at all times. So many comfortable and classy seating areas, and multiple terraces to enjoy a nice view of downtown. The room was perfect. It was serviced twice a day and we’d often return to a pleasantly surprising small chocolate gift. Beauty Items were constantly and generously replenished . (Only con was the iron board was small and it wouldn’t stand properly). The number 0 on our room door 504 was faded, and we returned to our room within half a day and it was immediately shining new. The breakfast included both a buffet with many, many options, plus an a la carte menu (omlettes, eggs benny, pancakes) that is included in your breakfast. Their continuous attention to detail just makes you feel the Principal Madrid is a class above 5 stars. We will stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel in Barcelona and couldn’t have been better. - Excellent location- 10 to 15 minutes to La Ramblas, right infront of McDonalds and Subway and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to (Antic Cafe), next to several supermarkets and clothes shops (including Carrefour express) - If you want to reach any place in Barcelona cheaply you could use the metro right infront of the hotel or use the bus on the other side of the road. I would recommend to buy 10€ ticket of 10 rides either by bus or metro. - The best thing about the hotel is its staff. They were really helpful in telling us the places to visit in Barcelona and how to reach them by metro or bus using the hotel map which was extremely helpful. MANY THANKS TO MR SERGI AND ALL THE STAFF!! They made the hotel feel more than a 5 stars and I haven’t found such welcomes staff like that in any hotel in the countries I have visited. Further to that, they gave my baby boy a balloon every time they see us. Really don’t know how to thank them! - Very rich breakfast buffet with a lot of choices and great drinks - Beautiful panoramic pool and rooftop to enjoy with a great bar to enjoy all sort of drinks and cocktails. P.S. Don’t forget to reserve for the cocktail classes or visit during their free beer tasting time. - Large spacious rooms which are cleaned everyday - Definitely would be back soon and I highly recommend it specially for all the service it offers compared to its affordable cost.

The staff were warm and welcoming. The building is historical and gorgeous. The location couldn’t be better for walking to every neighborhood and attraction in Barcelona. The amenities were so lovely. We so enjoyed the rooftop pool and bar, La Isabella (which happens to be my name in Spanish). We loved the included use of the spa with sauna and steam room. It was such a nice touch to include use of the spa pool and amenities with the room. Overall, this was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at for the money. We loved it so much that we are returning tomorrow for 2 nights to finish our vacation in Spain!

We only stayed for one night - our last evening in Barcelona after a week and a half traveling around Spain and part of France. I would have loved more time at the OD Barcelona; it's a clean, very comfortable hotel with warm and welcoming customer service. It's not the highest end of the 5-star scale, but it's great value for money (perhaps even better still because we got a good deal on Agoda). The breakfast was delicious, the location was great, staff super friendly and helpful, and we were grateful to use their on location parking garage. The bed was super comfortable, as was the shower, though the open layout of the bathroom and design of the sink (water splashed out a lot!) weren't ideal. Overall, a great place to stay, and we are likely to stay here again on our next visit!

we loved this hotel, the staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The food at breakfast had a great selection and was great value for money if you didn't already have it included. We had our room upgraded when we arrived and our room was great, good shower and bed, awesome amount of space and the rooms were very modern. We unfortunately had a smell in our room (wasn't sure if it was the air-con or not) so we called front desk and it was taken care of within a heartbeat. The pool is perfect as we loved having somewhere to hang around in between exploring, the views were great and the the Pool Bar staff were next level in amazing! Tom and Veronica made our trip in Spain. giving us great advice for local food and places to see, they had great music too!

We stayed at this hotel because of the access to public transit, and the free hotel van to downtown Madrid, and the airport. What we did not expect is the architectural features of the hotel It's rather like an art museum, with different themes on different floors. While the rooms themselves are lovely, with wifi an "interesting" bathtub (on the "Star Wars" floor) it is a classy joint. It's spotlessly clean as well. We included the breakfast buffet in our package, and though a little pricy, I would have to give it five stars. The food is very good, with great variety I don't think you'll be sorry if you stay here on your next Madrid trip. While it is not in central Madrid, a very short walk will put you at the nearby Metro stop. After that, you can really go anywhere in Madrid, though the hotel will drop you off downtown as well. This is one of those hotels that you will remember for the rest of your life. It is quite unique, and quite reasonably priced at the time of year we visited.

location location location!! absolutely perfect! it is an amazing 4 star hotel that should be considerred 5 stars, best location in barcelona, practicaly 2 seconds from la ramblas street (which i fell in love with) and across the street from the aerobus service (airport bus)so it really has a great location,the receptionist was soooooooo nice to us! hr name was suzana and gave us a beautiful room with a view as soon as she found out that we are honeymooners and was so plesant and took some of her time to chat with us when we were checking out the next day,the room was very clean and modern with amazing new decor idea's, couldnt have stayed at a better hotel, if you can afford it, dont think twice, this hotel is unbeatable and i;d love to go back to barcelona just to stay at this amazing hotel

Pleasant stay overall. The hotel location couldn't be better, the accommodations were clean and in fairly good repair but I did notice a lot of damage to walls and doors that should be fixed. Also, the doors need closers or higher grade hinges so that they don't slam shut; that was the most unpleasant part of the stay. The staff could be a bit more attentive. There was a doorman present constantly but he rarely seemed to be at the hotel door but rather 15-20 feet away for some unfathomable reason. Also, I did not like that housekeeping came into my room on the date of checkout prior to my checking out to start the room clean up. That was not 4-star service.

Our stay at Hotel Mercer was most memorable, our first visit to Barcelona, this fabulous hotel made it extra special and we loved every minute. The staff at the Mercer are exceptional, nothing was too much trouble for them; they helped us with theatre tickets, museum bookings, taxis and anything else we needed with their impeccable English. The hotel's location is as perfect as it could be, in the beautiful narrow lanes of the Gothic quarter you are never far from a delightful café or restaurant and all the main attractions are within walking distance. The area is very quiet at night and away from the crowds which throng other areas of the city. The building is on the site of a former palace and has been carefully renovated and turned into a hotel of the highest standard without losing any of its historic charm, and retaining many of the original features. The bedroom was roomy, the bathroom very well-equipped and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Housekeeping staff were discreet and conscientious. We shall definitely return, and would most strongly recommend it as the best place to stay in Barcelona.

Mark was great! Great emailer before check in and great check in and check out host. Great location mostly because it's on same block of a metro stop. It's a little far from the marina and Las Ramblas but it's an enjoyable walk through the city. If you're going to the beach, walk up the hill and take the scenic cable car ($11 +/- one way) to Sant Sebastia Beach. Be very careful for purse snatchers walking up the hill to the cable car - they tried but didn't succeed. We enjoyed the street facing room but definitely not soundproof rooms as advertised. Free wifi but very very weak on our third floor room, only available in apartment foyer and maybe in living room if the front door was open and never strong enough signal to get it in the bedrooms but the "Pan" sandwich restaurant next door had great wifi service at their tables (and good food). I think because this is an apartment and not a hotel that only one hand and shower towel per bed is provided but no soap but there's a grocery store just across the street. The items in this review aren't negative (except wifi), they are noted for your heads up information because we would stay here again. Charmsuites, if you read this, because all you beds are twins (even in the master suite) you should purchase and make available the item that straps two twin beds together to make a king sized bed for the couples used to sleeping on the same bed. Me and my Wife stayed at the Pulitzer Hotel as part of out Honeymoon tour of Europe July 2013. The Pulitzer is a cool quirky and luxury Boutique Hotel right next to Plaza De Catalunya, just off the Rambla! The place is good, you walk in to a cool looking bar and reception and there is always good music playing. The room was big and really comfortable, big bathroom and good toiletries. We had a balcony room overlooking the road which was a nice touch. The breakfast was really nice, just enough and quality foods. The price is great and location good, I recommend here over the big names, as it's located better and with the cool art and bars including a rooftop bar - it's more of a Barcelona City Living experience. Barcelona is the best shopping in Europe with lovely weather, food and shopping! Did I mention the shopping!?! Remember to give any taxi drivers the full address as the hotel is not on the Ramlas itself...

The room is of a normal size considering its location. But one can tell the hotel tried its best to make it as comfortable as possible. Personally speaking i think they achieved that. Someone used to complain about the glass wall between the shower and the bedroom, but there is a blind. Others complain about toilet separate from the shower, which is the most common setting in this part of Europe. The staff are just great. All the tips they gave us were extremely useful, saving a lot of time and made our visits in Barcelona smooth and enjoyable. Gracias! We didn't take breakfast in the hotel, so really can't tell about that.

I really wonder when was the time when Europe theme sounded stylish and sexy - today the once modern style of this hotel looks really outdated. Apart from that almost everything is good - the location is about 20 minutes by bus 46 to the airport, almost the same to the city center. The hotel is clean, very easy to find, staff is friendly, rooms are spacious and well air conditioned, beds are comfortable, bathroom is good, wifi is not great, but does the job... It may not be as stylish as a 4-star would suggest, but considering the favorable price, it's quite OK, especially for a short trip or a long layover.

I really liked this hotel. It's very modern, the decor is lovely and new, and the bedroom and bathroom was spacious and comfortable. I especially liked the toiletries provided, had a lovely bath with them! The metro was 1 minute walk around the corner and it took only 12 mins to get into town. I'd never been to Spain before, and I managed to get around on the metro safely on my own - it was easy. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. There was free wifi downstairs but i purchased the $6 Euros for 24 hours wifi in my room, which was a reasonable speed and reliable. The only negative was I asked for a standard room and was given twin beds (2 singles) which was a bit uncomfortable for someone who stretches out in their sleep! But it was not a dealbreaker. Honestly it's worth staying out of town a bit to get away from the crowds, stay in a large, comfortable new hotel with a good gym and breakfast. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I was traveling with my mom touring Spain and Italy ... the last stop before our flight back to the U.S. was Barcelona. I booked the hotel because they offer free airport shuttle transfers which was great because I was at the end of my budget. Tho hotel staff was friendly but the shuttle drivers could use some customer service training. They also offer a shuttle service to Barcelona city for €8.. limited space and reservation required. Because I didn't want to wait the 2 hours until the next shuttle to the city ... we walked 5 minutes to the nearest metro and with only 1 transfer , made it to the city for less than €3 for 2 people. Very convenient and easy to navigate. The room was modern, very comfortable and everything organized and clean. Nice hotel overall.

This hotel is the BEST at communicating with their guests even before they arrive! The staff has a heart and are very thoughtful. I didn’t even stay there and I was so impressed. THAT is what you call service. I will tell everyone. 2 days before I checked in to the hotel I r’cd a call that my mum had passed. I emailed the hotel who advised that b/c I booked with Agoda I had to cancel thru them. The hotel constantly wrote me emails of comfort and even reached to Agoda on my behalf to assist me with a refund. Agoda you were not nice. It was an extenuating circumstance despite the type of booking. I can produce the death certificate and was hoping for a full refund. The Olivia Balmes hotel will get my booking directly when next I visit Spain. Sadly, Agoda you and your team will not get any good reviews from me. Your service to me was not considerate during my time of unexpected grief. The hotel Olivia gets 5 stars and more. Regrettably Agoda gets no stars.

Hotel was well located and the worth the cost. Check-in: I wish I had been told the location of the sensor for activating the lights. Imagine entering a dark room for the first time and fumbling around. I had to go back down to the reception to be cheekily told "welcome to Europe, we save energy". Sure that is great! But guys let me know where the sensor is located - 'behind the door'....actually was on the wall on the left side - used my dying cellphone's light to see it. Like is the custom, for any hotel, the wifi password is written on the check-in paperwork or entry key cover. Guess the reception guy 'forgot'. When asked for the hotel phone book (generally kept by the phone), was told they did not have one and I should just dial 9 to get any information. Next day found that there was a hotel phone book, but it was on the dressing table under some books/catalogs. Reception guys was probably having a bad day( Stay: Was great. Like I said location was super. Check-out: Efficient

Pros 1) perfect location, subway entrance just next to hotel front door; major scenic spots, restaurants and shops are nearby 2) Great, fresh breakfast with 360 wonderful view of Madrid on roof top 3) Fancy designed room with all you needs and comfortable to take rest Cons 1) my room faces construction and redecoration building so I can't open window while the heat is too much for autumn in Spain

the hotel located on a street next to La Rambla and walking distance to Plaza Catalunya, which means the location is the best for traveller. It is walking distance from Aerobus bus stop hence make the travelling journey to airport is easy and quick. With the price that they charged, it is value for money in this location. However, the downside is the hotel charge euro 1.50 per night for the usage of the safety bos in the room, requires a deposit to put in place if we required the TV remote control- 1st time in my life to hear a hotel requires a deposit for a TV remote control. There is no free WIFI facilities in the room and they charge internet based on minute that u access to the internet. I thought WIFI is a basic facilities that a hotel has to offered? at least in the hotel lobby area.

Gran ducat offers the right service and ample room size. Definitely value for money since it is centrally located and all the best shopping and dining areas are well within a 10 min walk from the hotel. They have friendly staff who can suggest all the must see locations in Barcelona as well as the best routes to take to get there. This hotel is a stop and go type of hotel - I wont recommend it for couples on a honeymoon. But overall I am happy with the hotel and will recommend it to all my friends.

Hotel location fantastic - in middle of La Rambla - restuarants, subway, shopping, public transport and sight seeing places all closeby. Hotel rooms are newly rennovated and modern and good condition. Only issues I had was that the toilet did not work properly sometimes and took a while to get fix and sometimes I did not get shower gel and soap, had to ask but got served quickly. Hotels in Spain are not as generous as in Asia - no fridge also. Would great to have a fridge. Overall, I would stay in hotel again if price is competitive.

Fairly close to airport with free shuttle (if you can find it for pick up). Cafe has good food for decent prices. Air conditioning worked well, best in all the hotels we stayed in Spain. Customer service was great (except for one extremely rude front desk person). They let us leave a couple suitcases in their storage prior to our stay so we could travel light to France.

Decided to stay in Mazagon and found the place full of character and authentically Spanish. The hotel was very nice, clean and everyone was friendly although, as non-Spanish speakers communication could have been problematic. Our only gripe was that the room came equipped with a kitchenette but had no cups, plates pans etc which we found very strange? The was also no kettle and when we requested one to heat up our baby bottles they did not have one and provided us with a saucepan? Overall though a very pleasant stay!

This is my second time after 3 years - the whole concept of the hotel is great and unique worldwide with all the parties. That's why they can charge so much money per night. The staff at the reception is nice, but on the beach not very good. It took ages until we were served. Food is good. And the parties are great of course :) So will come there again because of the vibe, but in terms of service there are much better 5 star hotels for less money ;)
