“Is it because it's a resort?”

With the blue ocean in front of me, it was a very open and relaxing place. The staff were also very kind. Perhaps because it is a resort, it is inconvenient to go out from the hotel to buy something or go for a meal without a car. If I use it again next time, I would like to rent a car. The food at the hotel restaurant was very delicious. Breakfast was buffet style, with many items ranging from local ingredients to a mix of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine. What I found a little disappointing was that the building itself seemed old; the seams in the wallpaper of the room were slightly raised, and the bathroom felt a bit outdated.

    “It was a healing space.”

I visited with my family from my hometown. The sunset at Shinri Beach can be seen from both the balcony and the lobby. The atmosphere was perfect, especially with the infinity pool available from the lobby. Breakfast was a semi-buffet where the main dishes were brought to us, which made my parents happy and comfortable. There was also vegetable juice made from local longevity grass and purple sweet potatoes, allowing us to feel the local produce, and we were very satisfied. The public bath was beautifully cleaned, and it was nice to use. I was delighted to be able to use various hair dryers. The shampoo used was made from deep seawater from Kume Island, and the results were manageable, making me want to purchase it. The hotel shop was open from 8:00 to 10:00, and I would have appreciated it being open a little longer. I wanted to buy the shampoo used at the hotel if it was available in the shop. ✨

Stayed 1 night in November 2023

“It's great that the beach is right in front of you.”

The best thing about this hotel is that Shinri Beach is right behind it, allowing easy access to the beach. When I visited in the second week of November, the weather was warm enough to get sweaty in short sleeves, and the cicadas were chirping. However, even on sunny days, the sea temperature was low, and from November onwards, strong winds would blow, making it quite cold when wet, so swimming was not advisable. Instead, I enjoyed sticking my feet in the water, looking at the rocks formed by rising lava, and watching the sunset from the beach. There were three round sofas with cushions in a small area along the path between the beach and the hotel, where I could relax and peacefully enjoy the sky and sea. The pool was open until October, so I couldn’t swim or enter it, but it was well-maintained and visually appealing. In the evening, when the lights by the pool turned on, there were several heart-shaped stones lining the poolside which looked cute. I was moved by the beauty of the sea and sky, and I felt glad that I chose this Cypress Resort Hotel, which is so close to these natural wonders. Additionally, there was a public bath, although it was quite compact, which was nice. However, a downside was that I couldn't enjoy the sea while soaking in the bath. I also thought the shampoo and conditioner could be designed to provide more moisture. The hair dryer provided was from a good brand and was comfortable to use. The room had a balcony, allowing me to feel the sea even while inside. The interior featured cushions and tapestries with a "Kumejima Tsumugi" pattern, which added to the Kumejima vibe! The size of the room was also just right, not too big to get tired walking. I appreciated the service of hibiscus tea and sanpin tea bags. On the downside, there were not enough outlets in the room, and none by the bedside, which was inconvenient. Also, the peculiar smell from the closet and the unit bathroom was off-putting enough to make me want to hold my breath. I was worried that the smell would linger on my clothes in the closet. Additionally, the inside of the case containing the tea bags had accumulated dust, which was unpleasant. The amenities were not in the room but were available at a designated location in front of the front desk, where you could take as much as you needed. While I appreciate the eco-friendly aspect, it felt tedious to have to choose items right after arriving at the hotel when I was tired from a long journey, making it feel somewhat like a business hotel. The staff were polite and attentive, but I did feel some variation in the level of hospitality depending on the person. Breakfast was served buffet-style, and I found the pricing a bit high for those with smaller appetites, so I did not make a reservation. The shop in the evening was open only until 6 PM, and I wish it had at least remained open until 7:30 or 8 PM after dinner. The sight of sofas stacked immediately upon exiting the elevator detracted from the resort feel, which was disappointing. Since there are a lot of natural surroundings, there are no stores within walking distance of the hotel, so if you're coming by taxi, it's better to purchase items in advance. However, if you come with a rental car, you'll find restaurants and convenience stores about ten minutes away, so it should be fine. While there were several aspects that concerned me, this hotel, where I could encounter wonderful views, was fantastic. Next time, I would like to stay for multiple nights during a period when I can swim at the beach.

    “The best breakfast!”

Breakfast might be the best I’ve had among all the hotels I’ve stayed at. There was original vegetable and fruit juice, sparkling wine (which I didn’t drink), and a good selection of coffee and local tea. There were plenty of side dishes that complemented the rice, and the Danish was also delicious. The fruit selection was a bit limited. The beach right in front had calm waves, making it safe for small children to play. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean and playing in the pool until just before the 11 AM checkout. There were outdoor showers with shampoo and body soap provided. Beach towels can be rented for 100 yen.

    “Typhoon No. 6 hit directly.”

It was my second stay, but I was directly hit by Typhoon No. 6. Originally planned for three nights, I ended up staying a total of nine nights. Location: - Right in front of Shinri Beach, you can see beautiful sunsets if the weather is good. You can also see the runway of Kumejima Airport and the planes taking off and landing. Shinri Beach is more for splashing around than swimming deeply. It has many rocky areas, so children need to be careful. Room and Facilities: - I added one extra bed in the Deluxe Ocean View room (3rd floor), and there was plenty of space. I noticed a little dust on the table, but even after wiping it, a bit had collected again by the next day, so I believe the cleaning was done properly. (An air purifier might be a good idea.) The window to the balcony is double-layered (not double-glazed but has two physical sashes), which prevented water from flooding the room during the typhoon. There was a dehumidifier in the room, which was very helpful as it dried laundry quickly. Meals: - On the first day, I requested a BBQ (6000 yen), and while it was intended for two adults, one adult and two children could not finish it. It seemed a bit much even for two adults. Breakfast was served daily in the restaurant, and there was a good variety (normally). The standard plan from Agoda does not include breakfast, so there is an additional cost of 2400 yen (the same for children), giving a slightly expensive impression. Dinner was overall pricey, but there were no restaurants nearby, so there were no options without a car. Others: - There is a spacious garden with goats and turtles and a swing where you can see the sunset. There is also a beautiful pool where you can enjoy the resort vibe. It seems like towels could be free (they charge 100 yen for rental). Response to Typhoon No. 6: - As the typhoon approached, nets were set up at the hotel entrance and in front of the lobby in preparation. There was a power outage, but the lobby on the first floor was able to operate lights and charge phones via a generator, which was very helpful. It was difficult to get mobile signal on the first floor (au gets the best reception), so many people went up to the third floor to connect and gather information. They distributed slightly melted ice cream, instant noodles, and snacks, which was very helpful. Thanks to the water server, I didn't experience dehydration. Although I think the ingredients were limited in the latter half, they managed to provide lunch (1000 yen) and dinner (1300 yen) every meal, so I didn't have any problems. (Some menu items were not suitable for children, so during those times, I managed with snacks or instant noodles.) Others: - Communication of information was done individually rather than through announcements, which may have led to a disparity in information depending on the person. I think the hotel staff handled everything well, but it would have been better if necessary information had been displayed visibly, such as on a whiteboard. Overall, I believe I was able to spend a relatively comfortable time even in a very difficult situation largely due to the hotel's response. Despite being a strong typhoon, I felt relieved to have stayed at such a large hotel.
