    “Exceptional”

We stayed at Hyakumanben Cross Guesthouse for two weeks and had a wonderful experience. We chose this place because it’s conveniently located near our daughter’s school. The guesthouse has a lovely and cozy atmosphere, and our room was a beautiful traditional Japanese-style room that gave us an authentic local experience. Everything was exceptionally clean—our room was tidied up every day, and although the bathroom and toilet are shared, they were spotless and cleaned every morning. The location is also perfect. The guesthouse is near several bus stops, making it easy to go shopping in the city center or visit Kyoto’s beautiful temples and shrines. There are plenty of Japanese restaurants, convenience stores like Lawson and 7-Eleven, as well as KFC, McDonald’s, coffee shops, and a pharmacy just around the corner. The family who manage the guesthouse are very kind and attentive. They clearly take great pride in keeping the place well-maintained and comfortable for guests. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again. Highly recommended! With love from the Philippines!

    “Good Facilities, Poor Staff”

We are a group of three friends and picked this place as it is close to Kyoto University (where some of our other friends are enrolled to). All in all the accommodation was acceptable, reasonably clean and spacious. While it is not located inside the city centre, public transportation is readily available. The issue that our group has is with the hosts’ attitude. We regret that the host always give a blank, emotionless and unbothered face. The accommodation also maintains a strict 00:00 curfew where the main doors were locked after 12 am. One of our friend was ‘scolded’ and complained by the host for coming in late after he went to the public bathhouse and arrived slightly after 12am. Another issue we regret is that the host follow very strictly with her rules and plans, to the point that it unfortunately gave us a very bad experiences. Just slightly after 10:00 (the prescribed check out time), the host started banging on our door and informed us in an unfriendly tone that ‘check out time is 10, need to leave now’ - and then she tried to open the door while I am changing my pants (luckily I locked the door). We are then escorted out of the accommodation immediately. Some miscellaneous issues we have also encountered is that the host started vaccumm cleaning the place at 9 in the morning and got inside our room to pull some of the mobile battery device that we are charging while out for breakfast. It is unfortunate all these events have resulted in a poor impression of the accommodations. Overall, the accommodation was suitable for early sleepers and risers. It is a such a shame how this wonderful place was run by a host who was only remotely interested in providing a welcoming experience to the guests

“It's just right for people who have business at Kyoto University to stay.”

The interior is clean and gives the impression of having only the bare essentials. Towels are available for a fee (100 yen for a bath towel, 50 yen for a hand towel), but you can borrow them. It might be good for young people who are just "staying over" rather than traveling. However, in my case, the absence of other guests was one factor that contributed to my comfort, so I cannot recommend it to those who cannot tolerate shared rooms. The person at the reception was very friendly.

    “Great location and very clean”

Overall a great hostel, very peaceful and quiet. Located close to the Kamogawa delta which is one of the best spots in Kyoto. Everything was spotless and comfortable. One thing to note is that there is a curfew from 12am to 6am and the host really does not appreciate you coming or going during those hours.

“A clean and quiet environment, anyway.”

I have used various guesthouses, but this one stands out for its cleanliness! The water facilities and the polishing of the taps are wonderful. The flooring is also very smooth, so it might be a waste to wear slippers... It is also very quiet and relaxing. There are small dining establishments nearby where you can enjoy dinner. There were tea bags available. As a note, bath towels and regular towels are available for rental at a fee, and there are no pajamas provided (this is common for those who are used to guesthouses). It's just a bit of a walk from the station, and since there are stairs inside the guesthouse, those with large suitcases should keep this in mind.
