Did you find this review summary helpful?
I recently enjoyed a one-night solo stay at this hotel in the beautiful region of Hakone, Japan. Overall, my experience was a positive and restorative one, largely thanks to the fantastic facilities and the truly wonderful team of staff. The absolute highlight of my stay was the onsen (hot spring bath). The facilities here are excellent—clean, beautifully maintained, and provided a perfectly tranquil retreat after a day of traveling. It was the ideal way to unwind, and I would highly recommend the hotel based on the quality of the onsen alone. Furthermore, the staff were exceptional. They were attentive, warm, and made me feel genuinely welcome throughout my short visit. Their wonderful service elevated the entire experience and made up for the few drawbacks I encountered. Regarding the accommodation, the room itself was the only area showing its age. While functional, it felt a little dated, and I did notice some minor stains on the walls. For a one-night stay, this was easily overlooked, but guests seeking modern luxury should adjust their expectations. In conclusion, for solo travelers looking for a relaxing stopover in Hakone, this hotel offers a great mix of exceptional hospitality and outstanding onsen facilities. Despite the slight wear and tear in the room, the quality of the service ensures a good and memorable stay. I certainly left feeling refreshed.

We loved our stay at Hotel Kajikaso. From check-in to our departure from Hakone we had a fantastic time. The hotel has exceptional staff that are dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy their stay. Our room was lovely and well outfitted with gorgeous views. Our included dinner was a delicious kaiseki affair with seasonal ingredients that left us full but not feeling too heavy or bloated for the onsen afterward. The onsen facilities themselves are clean and are the perfect setting to relax in the mountains. I liked how the various pools differ in temperature with a mix of indoor and open air - you can try them all to find the perfect one for you. The traditional Japanese breakfast was also very enjoyable with a variety of components and a tasty grilled fish as the centerpiece. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here and can't wait to come back!
Thnak you very much for choosing Hotel Kajikaso and for taking the time to share your experience. We are very delighted to learn that you were satisfied with your, the seasonal kaiseki dinner, our onsen facilities, and the traditional Japanese breakfast. We sincerely appreciate your kind remarks regarding our staff and the quality of your stay. Please be assured taht we will continue striving to provide an exceptional and comfortable experience for all our guests. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on your next visit to Hakone. Thank you once again for your gracious review. Hotel Kajikaso FrontDesk Staff Binisha Limbu
It was close to Hakone Yumoto Station, and I deliberately chose to walk along the riverside back streets, which allowed me to avoid the crowded main street and was surprisingly pleasant. (If you're planning to snack while walking, the main street would be better.) The lobby was spacious and offered complimentary drinks, so I was able to relax and wait comfortably even if I arrived early for check-in. This time I stayed in a special floor room called “Ikoi,” which had an outdoor bath. With this room, I could check in directly in the room, and I was also escorted to it. (I didn’t request assistance this time as I had no luggage, but I believe they would help with suitcases and such.) It was one of the rooms that was renovated in 2024, offering a beautiful, modern Japanese atmosphere. The twin beds were more than sufficient, and there were power outlets conveniently located near the head of the bed, so charging was not a problem. The bed-making was done meticulously. In the tatami room, there was a low table, and I was able to enjoy meals there comfortably with plenty of space. There were welcome drinks and delicious pickles and sweets provided, allowing me to relax as soon as I entered. The dinner, supervised by a Michelin one-star restaurant, was delicious, and I felt quite full afterwards. Of course, the breakfast was also tasty, and I was quite full from it in the morning. The water quality of the hot spring felt somewhat creamy and was pleasant. My skin felt smooth afterwards. I went into the guest room's outdoor bath multiple times until just before check-out, but since we preferred slightly cooler water, we adjusted it by adding some, which made temperature management a little tricky, but it was still a very nice bath that allowed me to stretch out and relax. The large public bath wasn’t particularly spacious, but it was adequate. It felt like a typical public bath. It seemed that there were various types for women, and they seemed to enjoy it. The room amenities were satisfactory, including a Dyson hairdryer and Refa shower, which were nice. Although I felt a bit of cold draft by the window due to winter, it wasn’t a problem as long as I was warmed up in the bath. If you're sensitive to cold, it might be better to warm up the room. The staff were very kind and reassuring. I think the distance was just right—not too close, nor too far. If anything came up, they were attentive and caring, which made me feel at ease. The attendant who was in charge of my service was also very meticulous with her tasks, and I was well taken care of. Thank you very much. I was glad to be able to buy the recommended pickles to take home. I initially intended for a slightly luxurious trip, but considering the overall service and everything else, it felt like a bargain instead. I think it would make for a very satisfying trip. If it were a season with beautiful mountain views, I think I could have enjoyed the scenery even more; however, winter was a bit subdued. This was an inn that I would like to use again.
Booked this place last minute for my stay in Hakone, it was so much better than I expected! The public onsen was amazing, the rooms were clean and tidy and the welcome drinks were really great.

“Traditional and comfortable ”
My wife and I are Australian. We stayed in a traditional room with a private onsen. I have tattoos so I cannot use the public onsen. The staff were polite, attentive and dressed traditionally. They were kind and did their best to communicate with limited English. You can understand enough and there is enough information in written English to get by. There are two restaurants and breakfast and dinner were included. The meals were huge with over 10 courses. If you don’t like seafood you will struggle but if you love seafood this is an amazing Japanese food experience. The price was reasonable and the drinks were reasonable for hotel prices. The room itself was very large. The beds are laid out in the evening when you are eating, however they are just in the cupboard so you can set them up yourself at anytime. The TV was a smart TV with streaming which even modern 5 star hotels don’t have in Japan. The room overlooked the river, it had a beautiful view and was so amazing to just look out at relax. The beds are futons in the Japanese rooms but they are comfy enough, like a sleep over back home. The private onsen was very good, it’s hot and it was summer so only small sessions worked but you can have a cool shower after. I found it soothing and good for sore muscles. The room had a small amount of mould in one corner which can be expected in an old hotel with a onsen operating in the vicinity; requires repair. The staff were excellent however there were 1 or 2 times that we had to wait to be served in the bar or at dining as there isn’t that many of them. They did a great job regardless. The hotel is about a 5-10 min walk from the station, I suggest walking up the river side. Overall 9/10 stay. Very cool experience.
