I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hakone Suimeisou Hotel, and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. The room was absolutely exquisite—beautifully designed with a perfect mix of traditional charm and modern comfort. But what really stood out was the open-air onsen in the room. I can’t express how wonderful it was to soak in the hot spring water while enjoying the peaceful views—it was the perfect way to unwind. The Omakase dinner was another highlight. Every dish was not only delicious but also thoughtfully prepared and presented. The warm service from the staff during the meal made it feel even more special, became it felt like they were genuinely dedicated to making sure I had a great time. From start to finish, the staff were incredible. They made the check-in and check-out process so easy and were always so friendly and helpful. I left feeling completely rejuvenated and can’t wait to come back. Hakone Suimeisou is a place I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway.
First of all, the location is incredibly good, it's so convenient, haha. Of course, there are more peaceful and beautiful ryokans, but the trip from Shinjuku to Hakone is more exhausting and longer than expected, so when we arrived at Hakone-Yumoto Station, we were really tired. If we had to transfer to another station or go to a ryokan that was a bit far away, it would have been despairing, I think. For 500 yen, it seemed like you could use a private bath, but I didn't add that on. When I went to take a bath in the morning, I found out I could use the shared outdoor bath alone, so if you time it well, I think you might not need to pay extra. I recommend bathing twice, once in the evening and once in the morning. The dinner and breakfast weren't to our taste. Everything had a yuzu soy sauce flavor, so we just ate it to get into the mood. All the staff were friendly, but the person in charge of our room didn't speak any English and was not very skilled with translation devices (they had a personal translator with them). Luckily, we were somewhat good at listening, so we were able to communicate, but after they saw that, they just kept explaining everything in Japanese, which was a bit challenging.
I arrived late at night in the rain. It's a 7-minute walk from Hakone Yumoto Station. There are many famous restaurants nearby, and it's quiet since it's located behind the main tourist street. The charm of the ryokan lies in the quality of service and friendliness of the staff, as well as the heartfelt meals, and in that regard, it is a highly satisfying ryokan hotel. The variety and quality of the food for breakfast and dinner were quite high, and above all, the sukiyaki and sashimi were excellent. The private open-air bath was clean, and the large communal bath was always pleasant to use since there were no other people. If I had to point out a downside, it would be that the hotel staff, armed with the typical extreme friendliness found in Japanese hotels, were hard to find. I requested box packing at checkout, but the service was not that excellent. Aside from these minor points, overall, I would definitely consider revisiting. It is a ryokan that truly represents Hakone for its price.

The hotel’s location is incredibly convenient, just a short walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, making it an ideal base for exploring the Hakone area. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the traditional Japanese-style room, which was spacious, impeccably clean, and offered a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. Sleeping on the futon laid out on the tatami mats was a unique and comfortable experience. The highlight of my stay was the private onsen in my room, which overlooked the tranquil river. Soaking in the hot spring water while enjoying the calming sound of the flowing river and the scenic view was an unforgettable experience. It provided the perfect setting to relax and unwind in complete privacy. The kaiseki dinner was a culinary delight, featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients artfully prepared. The staff were incredibly attentive and ensured that every dish was presented beautifully. The breakfast, whether Japanese or Western style, was equally satisfying. The staff’s hospitality stood out throughout the stay—they were warm, polite, and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They provided excellent recommendations for nearby attractions and ensured that all my needs were met. Overall, Hakone Suimeisou Hotel is a perfect blend of traditional Japanese hospitality and modern comfort. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and authentic Japanese ryokan experience in Hakone.
