This was my first ryokan and my first visit to the Hakone area. What can I say? Unforgettable experience. We only stayed for a single night but I suggest everyone to try out the cable car experience to get to Hakone. At the station either hail a taxi or the hotel can pick you up (we went the taxi route!). The check in was smooth and the ryokan itself is very intimate with few rooms. We were greeted to our fantastic room and of course the highlight (or so we thought!) the private onsen. The beds are comfortable and everything was roomy, just perfect relaxation. The highlight was the dinner me though! It was a classic Japanese diner and we were given the second floor private room. The food was legendary, just something out of a multiple star Michelin restaurant. Honestly highly, highly recommended! The staff was great, the facilities fantastic. Just book here!
TLDR: Highly recommend for the Hakone hot springs and a catered Japanese hospitality. You are welcomed by the staff and not bothered to check in as they perform it for you while you wait and enjoy their garden. They lead to your room with unique Japanese wooden keys and show you the features of your room including the private onsen in your room should you not desire to go to the public one. They provide Japanese garments and sandals for your stay. Their public onsen has everything you need including the towels. All you have to do is show up, follow the Japanese onsen customs and enjoy a relaxing soak in Hakone hot springs. They have grooming implements to freshen up. And after your soak a communal fridge with chilled drinks and various ice creams. They are thoughtful and accommodating to your dietary requests including allergies and any religious or lifestyle dietary observances. The food served and created for you at their restaurant on site. It is a dinner omakase and breakfast either Japanese or western. Very delectable and an unforgettable dining experience. The staff is professional and extremely polite. They strive to make sure your stay is exceptional. They have other services including a salon for massages which I was unfortunately unable to book. It is the only slight that would’ve been nice to have been available but the onsen was more than enough for relaxation. Hakone suishoen is a wonderful ryokan with its own onsen offers such a catered and pampered experience. If you are truly looking for the Japanese polite hospitality and to unwind, this is the place for your stay.
My girlfriend and I chose to stay here for the private ensuite onsen, which was spacious and beautiful. However the real value is the meals included. We came in with no expectations as food that is included in the price of hotel stays is usually unremarkable. The included dinners and especially the breakfasts were AMAZING. Entirely equal in value to the room itself. Public transportation to nearby attractions required a bus or walking at some point but easy enough to get to. For those looking for a quiet and private getaway after a few busy nights in Japan - please give this establishment a serious consideration.
The hotel is very modern and clean. Location near Hakone Open Air Museum. Staff were friendly and food was amazing. We only had breakfast but it was good. The guy served us breakfast spoke really well English as well as the girl who walked us to our room. I enjoyed everything when I stayed here. We checked out and left our luggage to go to the museum. When we came back, we were so out of breath from climbing up the hill to walk back. We went back to the hotel lobby and sat down to rest. Although we paid for the transportation for them to take us back to the nearest train station, we felt that the staff passive aggressive rushed us out towards the end. They weren’t as welcome as when we arrived. Other than that I like it here a lot.

“Outstanding service, beautiful and clean facilities”
Stayed here a single night, as part of a family vacation to Tokyo. The staff and service are top notch, and the hotel is beautiful. While any individual staff member might not be perfectly proficient in English, we never had any issues. The rooms are clean, immaculate and large, and ours came with a private bath. There is also a public bath if you prefer, and it is stocked with drinks and ice cream. I loved the set up of the room, with a sort of vestibule with the toilet and a cubby for the staff to deliver things to your room without disturbing you. The rooms also came with complementary refreshments, including hibiscus tea and oolong tea in the fridge, as well as some other beverages - alcoholic and non-alcoholic - to enjoy post private bath. The beds were comfortable though, I was a little disappointed they didn't have any tatami rooms left for us. All in all, a wonderful break from the noise of Tokyo; I'm leaving so much more relaxed than I came.
