We booked this hotel because it had good reviews, it’s a nice new hotel (ignore if you’re reading this after 2021) and if you like IKEA you will like this hotel, the staff are very friendly, speak good English and can assist with taxis etc. The hotel is situated just outside the old town and a few minutes walk to the local fresh food market with street food yat night was lovely, the Sushi lady was amazing at just over 10p a piece, unbelievable, it’s a brisk walk to the night market or about 100 baht for a tuk tuk, the street food is as good as the street food in the night market but slightly more ‘local’, if you fancy a lovely foot massage the girls in the parlour between the hotel and market were very good, again no frills but quality of massage spot on. For a coeliac the breakfast was very good, obviously as all over Thailand no bread it a nice variety of food. Free bottled water, fruit and a snack jar (seemingly gf as rice) is available all day, coffee machine and hot water for tea and hot chocolate also on hand in reception area 24/7, this is very nice but if you are in your room and fancy a hot drink you need to pop down to reception, maybe we could have asked for a kettle? There was no double room available when we booked the twin, and we asked if we could have one prior to arrival, they had put the two bed together and it created a massive larger than king of king beds! Don’t expect to a nice view but you’ll get a clean fresh room very good for a short stay in the city.

We weren't expecting too much because of disappointments from previous trips to Thailand. We have stayed in hotels with poor service, dirty rooms, and high prices, but not this time. Chiang Mai Gate Hotel is very clean and the staff are all friendly. Our room was spacious and neat. The swimming pool was one of the cleanest I have seen in Thailand. (Most are dirty and smell of chlorine) As you know, most breakfasts served in Asian hotels leave much to be desired, but not here. The buffet breakfast was one of the best I have ever seen in a mid price range hotel. The coffee was excellent and were the eggs cooked to order. They also served warm pancakes! We will definitely return.

We are amazed by this beautiful hotel. The rooms are brand new and really stylish. Really nice pool and facilities too. They had a great breakfast and offered fruits, coffee, tea and cooled water for free all day long. The staff was just amazing - always helpful, super friendly and very welcoming. Best hotel staff I've ever met. I highly recommend this hostel when staying at Chiang Mai. Even though the surrounding area is not that great, you get everywhere easily and quiet cheap by TukTuk. I reckon one of the best hotels in Chiang Mai for an affordable price. We'll definitely come back!

We enjoyed our stay at the Goldenbell Hotel, aside from its proximity to Chiang mai Gate, which is near the Saturday Night market location, their staff are all very courteous and helpful. We appreciate that they offer unlimited complimentary cold & refreshing drinks (Longan, Roselle & Lemongrass Juice) that you can get from their lobby together with some complimentary snack. Our room is spacious and well-appointed, except that they do not have toothbrush and toothpaste. Also, the lanai at the 2nd & 3rd floor is a good location to have coffee or tea at night or mid afternoon.They also bikes that guests can borrow to stroll around the old city. Their breakfast spread is consist of salad bar, bread & pastries with jams, rice & dish, and outside the dining area, they have an egg, bacon & noodles station. Will definitely recommend the Goldenbell to our family & friends who will visit Chiang Mai.

We stayed here during the lantern festival in early Nov. It is an absolute gem. Away from the noise and crowds at Chiang Mai gate and night markets yet within easy walking distance 5-10mins. Room: We had a pool room, so was perfect for quick dip in the pool after a hard days sightseeing and eating awesome food. bed was very comfy, nice bathroom, in-room safe and complimentary water. Breakfast: It is complimentary but just it's just coffee, toast and fruit. Walk out of the hotel, turn left for about 20metres and there's a great local place to have fresh noodles very cheap. If you need laundry done, opp the local food place is local laundry, by the kg, will wash and deliver your washed clothes back at hotel reception. Staff: Always friendly and very helpful, recommending places to go see visit and to eat. Transport: Walk a few mins and hail the red jump in taxis. They only charge like 20 Baht. just tell driver where you are going. It is worth going to the 'Central Airport Plaza' .. there are international branded stores here, but in the basement is a great food court, local dishes for 30-40 Baht each. Would recommend the 'pig blood' soup and noodle .. too many dishes to choose from. If you have never been to Chiang Mai or are on a return trip there, come stay at this place.

This hotel is a little gem with a lot of character. The rooms are just perfect and the whole area in the hotel is very nice arranged with a pool in the yard. We can just say the best about this hotel and our stay here. We first booked 2 nights and then wanted more, but it was full. So we had to change the hotel for a few nights until we could return. And we returned without any doubt. I think that says it all. 10/10 points

This is a big statement but for me this was the best place I have ever stayed in 20 years of travel in SE Asia. I just loved the old colonial style architecture and the beautiful deep dark Burmese teak and red (From the beetle nut colour). Its a good 15-20 mins walk to main road but was no problem as you can get a Tuk-Tuk for about 20B but late at night from Night Bazzar it will be 100B. I just loved the ambience of the place, the rooms were exquisite, clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with good coffee. There are also a couple of very friendly adorable cats running around. Good nights sleep and good relax at end of the day. Bathroom is large with huge shower head. I cant wait for my next visit to Chiang Mai I will stay here for sure thanks Tri Yaan Na Ros. This is truly a beautiful boutique hotel with excellent value for money and the atmosphere of yesteryear.

Location is ok. It's not inside of old city of ChiangMai, but it's on a main road, so you can walk all the way to the old city. There is night market just outside of the hostel in the weekend, and all the music, all the noises will keep you awake till 1am. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. Hey can buy train tickets for you (there are handling fee for that). And you can book one day tour at the reception, there are many choices. The room is vey clean, and although the bed is a little bit small, it is very comfortable. Taking bath is not very pleasing in this hostel, they have very limited amount of hot water each time, I guess their hot water tank is very small. You might run out of hot water in the middle. The breakfast is ok. They have bread, juice, milk, hot water and instant coffee. Enough for a traveler to get fed. Overall, I recommend backpackers and young couples with limited budget to stay here.

We had a very pleasant stay here. This family oriented hotel is situated in a quiet neighborhood, a short walk from the old city's South Gate. The staff speaks good English, are service minded and eager to help with any questions. The man who cleaned our room did an excellent job (I walked in on him by accident and found him on all fours scrubbing the already quite clean floor) and made our stay one of the cleanest hotel experiences I have had in Thailand. Nice big room and bed. Turn right out of the hotel entrance, then right again and walk 80 meters. You will find a really good restaurant for traditional thai food. They serve big helpings.. very good value for money. Across the street is a laundry shop that will wash a bag of clothes for 100 baht (cheapest I've found in Thailand. Continue down this soi and you will reach the road(s) running along the city walls outside the Old City. If you turn left here, you will find a MC rental that will rent you a scooter for 200 baht per day.

When I arrived late at night, the front desk thought we have not paid via Agoda. The bill she showed me said 2,500 ish Baht for 2 nights for a triple room. You do the math. But we were too tired to argue. As for the room, very spacious and clean. A free mini bar with drinks and snacks. Very thoughtful! The only strange thing is that the bathroom is outside the bedroom, a aisle away. Location is great! Would be better if there is a parking lot instead of street parking.

This has to be the nicest hotel I stayed in during my trip for the budget I was on. The staff were friendly and a butler carried my bag to the room. The room and hallways were very modern and clean. The room was large with a window overlooking the city. The shower and aircon worked well. Breakfast was the usual fruit selection with a choice of cooked meal and tea/coffee. All in all rather posh! The name fits the bill.

We stayed at many budget places in the area. When we arrived they put us (a couple) in a two twin room. Being as this is the first time we weren't in a dorm, we expected to be able to share a bed. They quickly amended this and moved us to a queen room. This place has everything we needed, hot showers, big bed, coffee and toast in the mornings. The only downside was we couldn't extend our stay two nights because they were fully booked.

I arrived very late on a Sunday night because of flight delays, and when I arrived to another hotel that I pre-booked, there was no staff to let me in. Baan Ngern was one of the only hotels nearby with a staff working, so I immediately booked a room with them. The room was very clean, and employees very nice. I ended up extending my stay because I was very happy with the ongoing housekeeping, good wifi, kettle, mini fridge, large room, and great location for me.

I asked the hotel to arrange an airport taxi when checking out. The owner asked what time, said no problem then drove me there himself. A really kind couple own the hotel and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a good stay. The rooms are new, clean and well appointed. The hotel is just outside the moat, is quiet but within a short walk to the tourist sites of old Chiang Mai. A very positive experience all round

We had originally booked only 1 night at this hotel as we were not too sure about its location (just outside of the walled down town area) and we ended up staying 4 nights in total. We paid $37/night, breakfast included and we thought this was a very good deal. The hotel premises ared lovely, the room was nicely decorated and the bathroom seemed newly renovated; location is perfect on a quite back street only 10 minutes walk from the walled old town. It is also around the corner from the Saturday Walking Street Market. The staff is very friendly and breakfast was adequate (eggs made to order, fresh fuits and juices. I would suggest though using freshly brewed coffee as the Nescafe was not great!). We loved Chiang Mai and if we go back we would definitely stay at Tadkham Village again.

Pros - clean, very friendly staff, good quiet location, reasonably priced (£15 night), safe location (as a female solo traveller I felt very safe walking alone at night). Free daily water. All the facilities you could ask for - decent shower, table and chairs in room, fridge, air con. Comfy double bed. Insect free with mesh on the outside of the windows if you did want to leave them open. About 5 mins in a tuk tuk to the night bazzar and Thai Pae Gate (walking 15-20 mins) The only improvement would be to have a safe in the rooms (there is an option to use the safe in reception though). Also the pool water looked green so it didn't appeal for swimming in, but a great outside area for sun bathing

this place is the best! this is one of these places that makes you so happy you listened to the reviews and booked it. i loved naruncha so much i am going back for 6 more nights! the location is good, about a 10 minute walk down a side street outside of old city. the place itself is ok, nothing to write home about. but the ladies who work there make it feel like home. and it is for them! it is so clean you could eat right off the floor, and they take such good cre of you. perfect for solo female travellers. i am so grateful i found this little diamond in the rough and hope if you come to chiang mai you have a chance to see what i mean!
