"We were pleasantly surprised with our stay here. The hotel is located in the Old City and close to a number of very interesting temples. As others pointed out, the bathrooms could use an upgrade but the hotel is clean, the beds comfortable, a large flat screen television with many English speaking channels. The Wi-Fi worked excellent in our room and everywhere in hotel. And did I mention they have a great little pool for cooling off after a hot day hiking around town? The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk helped us book a trip to Chiang Rai and everything worked out great. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. You will be hard pressed to find a better value for the money. I'd also recommend booking your hotel with the included breakfast. The breakfast has a good selection of both western and Asian items and you could even get omelets or eggs cooked to order. Coffee, tea, juice, toast and a good selection of fresh fruits were also available. Next trip to Chiang Mai I won't need to research a place to stay, I'll be staying here."

"In general, this place is very well organized for your trip. Receptionist is very kind and helpful in showing us many adventure combo (Night safari, Elephant riding, Zip line, Drafting, Trekking...) in Chiang Mai with reasonable price which is lower than a nearby agency that we asked for information. Especially, in the afternoon, there's a very "lovable" receptionist. Hotel facilities are quite enough for a short trip. There's no hair drier, safe and room is small, just fit for a bed and your luggage. We've been there for just 2 days, so that's ok for us. Breakfast at hotel is a la carte, not a buffet, most of dishes is fried eggs, butter, jam, bread, or fried rice. So, if you expect to enjoy local food, I suggest you to go out of hotel and walk a few step to the corner, there's a restaurant called Thoan Aoan, it's good place for breakfast. Hotel's location is inside of the Old City in Chiang Mai, it's very convenient for us to go any where. Hotel can call and deal a songtheo (red car) for you. Hotel decoration is the best. There's a small garden inside of the hotel which provide us many beautiful shots. Every corner of hotel is very well decorated. We'll be back here for next trip to Chiang Mai. Thanks for all support from hotel!!"

"Luckily i was here with my partner otherwise i would’ve had a different thought in this hostel. We absolutely loved the cooking class (Saturday was pad Thai night) in the front courtyard. It was delicious and so much fun to cook! The following morning they offered free yoga also in the courtyard (Mat provided). It was a great class & im so appreciative of the perks. In addition, breakfast was great & accommodating! For the negatives: People keep to themselves & i felt awkward talking, even in the common areas. After attempting to chit chat with fellow travelers, i got the weird vibes that people just wanted to be left alone. We got back to the hostel around 10:15pm & my entire room was asleep! The entire hostel pretty much goes to sleep at 10 & you’re left sitting in the common area reading a book. But i realized why everyone goes to sleep early... i was woken up (i was in room B) by the bass of the jazz music they blast in the common area.. AT 7am. No it’s not one of those you can sleep through, it’s booming through the walls. The beds are comfortable & i slept very well but you have to be kidding me. I woke up agitated & instead of staying another night, we decided to leave. Great for the free cooking & yoga class. Poorly rated for the lack of socializing & consideration."

"I absolutely LOVED this hostel. Pretty much the best one I’ve stayed in to date. Hostels in Chiang Mai are pretty competitive so there’s quite a bit of quality at a low price point. I stayed the the 4 person mixed dorm. It’s the delux room. Each bed comes with a private desk area. It was a short walk to the bathroom. 5 showers and 5 stalls. Never had to wait. 3 sinks and two strong wall blow dryers. Everything was super clean. The front desk ladies really made the experience for me. They knew my name when I walked up based on my change in reservation that I made via FB messenger the night before. They went out of their way to ensure I had my complimentary togo breakfast ready each morning. Towels are a 30 baht rental, so not too bad there. Can’t wait to come back again!"

"Out of all the hostels I've stayed at in Asia, Monkey Toe is easily my favorite. Offering great value for the price. The common room area is large, making it easy to meet other travelers. The pool table is in great shape, along with the huge refrigerator you can use to keep your drinks cold. The owners keep coffee and snacks out all day. The rooms are great, with a capsule design you get a lot of privacy yet can still socialize with others if you'd like. Hands down the best part of this hostel however, is the owners. Michael and Nok are incredibly hospitable and went out of their way multiple times to help organize transportation and activities for myself and other travelers. They made my time in Chiang Mai very fun and stress free and I will definitely be back next time I'm in Chiang Mai!"
