“HIVE Experience Report”
I really appreciate everything. Thank you to the accommodations, the staff, and all the fellow travelers I shared my stay with! You can take a bus from the airport, and if you're heading to the remote island terminal, you can walk there. The bus terminal is also nearby, so even someone like me without a license didn't struggle much with sightseeing, although it depends on where you go. I want to write about my experiences honestly and without any pretense, as I think it will be more helpful as a review! I stayed for 8 nights alone. Moreover, it was my first time staying in a guest house. First of all, it's on the third floor, so if you have a lot of luggage or are not confident in your legs, be prepared; it’s stairs! ★ I was confident in my legs, so I also borrowed a bicycle. It was rusty, just as the staff informed, but that's to be expected since it's parked in a seaside town. The bike was free to borrow if you wrote a review. I got a surprise when the chain came off after just 5 minutes of pedaling! With some oil and a little creativity, I tried using the coconut oil I had, and it worked well. Ignoring the staff's advice to not go too far, I leisurely rode about 20 kilometers from Banan Park, at an elevation of 230m, to Fusaki Beach. Of course, it was with human power, not electric. I enjoyed my rebellious phase, not listening to any parental guidance. However, I reminded myself that I was responsible if it broke! The bike is probably fine for just a bit of a ride around the city, but the handlebar leans slightly to the left, and oil is a must. If you can take care of the bike with love, then definitely give it a try. I think oil in a can might not be allowed on airplanes, so you could purchase cooking oil at a convenience store or at a 100-yen shop (there’s one in Hiraehigashi) after you arrive. The staff is all wonderfully crazy! Of course, all the guests who gather are just the same, in a good way. It’s a shame not to enjoy the charm of a guest house where you can interact with many unique personalities, even if it’s in broken English. Also, since everyone is considerate, they can sense when you don’t want to interact and will keep an appropriate distance, so those who are shy can rest assured. For those who want to make a lot of friends, this is the best accommodation. I’ve posted a few photos, but the table one is amazing, with everyone bringing something even if it’s our first meeting! And we tasted each other's contributions, including those from vegans… it’s truly an experience you can’t have in everyday life. This place will get you hooked on guest houses. The facilities are really good for the accommodation cost! You can hang your laundry on the roof, and there are washing machines, dryers, and shower rooms. There’s a fan at your sleeping area, and outlets are available in both the sleeping and living areas. You can cook in the kitchen, and I boiled water every morning for coffee (this was my favorite time). The shared refrigerator was clean, and the freezer kept the ice cream from melting. What a great worker! The shower room is heavenly if you avoid peak times. For those with long hair, please bring your own conditioner, as there’s only rinse-in shampoo available. Facial wash and body soap are provided. What else do you want to know? Oh! You can also hang clothes in your sleeping area. In the shared spaces, there are places to share hangers. Also, everyone on the staff is genuinely kind, so feel free to ask them anything; they'll work miracles for you (I’ll keep it as miracles☆). I usually don’t write reviews, but I hope this long passage and photos reveal just how much fun I had and how much I loved this place. I really want to see everyone again and go back (the opposite of homesick). Also, when staying on a remote island, remember that you’re coming as a guest. I took the initiative to clean up others' trash and messes; I even wiped down the kitchen and sink (there are three sinks). Because of that, I was mistaken for the dorm mother! 🐘 Pawon! But that’s how comfortably everyone got along. So, I want to say that you should create your own place. If you do, it really feels like home. I want to use this place again and recommend it to others. I even want to talk about it in detail on YouTube next time. Oh! Be considerate when filming in the shared areas. I checked with the staff and chose a daytime when nobody was around. Yes, those coming to HIVE
