Reasonable alternative to staying in Surin city”
This lodging is located in the town of Sikhoraphum, which is best known for an old Khmer ruin of the same name. The ruin is a short walk from the resort. Sikhoraphum makes a reasonable alternative to staying in Surin city. Most of what there is to see in Surin is south, not in Surin city, and you can get there as easily from Sikhoraphum too. Prices are lower in Sikhoraphum. Another reviewer noted that this resort has no food, and that is correct. However, you do NOT need transport to go to Surin to eat, because the town has many places to eat, and they are good. If you want to go to Surin city, there is a train stop in Sikhoraphum, and the train goes several times each day. You can also go to Sisaket or any other stop on the train line, which runs from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani. The lodging is about 1 mile (1.5 km) from the train station. There is also a bus station at the train station, mostly minivans (rohd TU), which might be faster. A "resort" in Thailand is usually a simple dwelling, more like what we call a "motel" in USA than a "hotel". This resort is mostly concrete. There were no windows in my unit, but that keeps it dark and quiet for sleeping. There is enough light that it is cheerful to be there. Because the sign for this place is written in Thai, it is a little hard to find. It is down a small road off of the main highway, route 226. Take note of the phone number, which is easy to see on the sign: 044560289. You can ask people where it is: "wrong ram jahm jew ree TI nai" and they will help. I walked from train station to hotel with a couple of heavy bags. I was hot and tired when I arrived, but it was doable. Because Sikhoraphum is not much of a foreign traveler town, not many people will speak English. The menu at restaurants will be in Thai. But there are street food places (good and safe) that you can see an point. If you speak some simple thai, it will be easy for you. If not, well, the people are friendly in a small town

Hotel has changed name”
Nice cheap and quiet but the name is the Raintree resort. There isn't food available in the resort and you would need transport as it a 30 minute drive to Surin.
