“The best Hotel in Town”
The hotel is a dream and the staff – from the security guard standing in front of the hotel who watches over the rental scooters at night, to housekeeping, the restaurant servers, the bartender, and all the way to the concierge and reception – are always helpful, friendly, courteous, discreet, lovely, solution-oriented, and very competent. It can happen that an air conditioner breaks down (at Deutsche Bahn that happens every summer). But from reporting the issue, through troubleshooting, to the decision to give me another room, less than 2 hours passed. It brought a little smile to my face when I first had to explain to the housekeeping gentleman that a safe only makes sense if it's fixed to the wall. This first led to brief confusion and then to the solution of removing the safe from the first room (since I was satisfied with that one) and exchanging it with the safe I didn't like, then fixing it to the wall like in the previous room, instead of just getting two screws and securing the safe (which was actually fine in itself). But as I said, the entire staff at the King Rock works consistently in a customer- and solution-oriented way, even if the path to the solution could have been a sketch from Mr. Bean. It was also no problem to have a package sent to the hotel, had the Cambodian Post not kept the package at the central post office in Phnom Penh. And if you surprise the bartender by wanting a gin and tonic with ice at 11:30 in the morning on vacation, and the ice supplier hasn't arrived yet, they simply get ice from the restaurant on the corner (Khmer Grill – a great restaurant 1 minute away on foot). It was also no problem to spontaneously extend my stay by 3 days. I was even given the tip to book via Agoda, as it's cheaper than booking directly with the hotel. A room change was also not necessary for me. As already mentioned many times, the entire staff is lovely and works consistently in a customer-oriented way. The hotel is overall beautifully maintained, and something is constantly being repaired, painted, or touched up, so I didn't notice any major or minor technical or visual flaws. Here I would like to note that I was a guest just before the start of the high season. That's why my breakfast for the first two days was à la carte, as breakfast is only switched to buffet when there is sufficient room occupancy. Here comes the first of a total of 2 suggestions for improvement that I have for the hotel: I would have liked either more selection or more variety at the fruit buffet. It would also be nice if there were freshly squeezed orange juice instead of Tetra Pak orange juice for breakfast. An orange juicer and a basket of oranges would suffice. This would also expand the selection at the fruit buffet. Coffee lovers might be a bit disappointed by the provided coffee. But you have the option to order a really good coffee for $1.XX. Otherwise, there is a sufficient selection for both European and Asian palates at breakfast. The rooms are large, clean, and have a big comfortable bed, a small seating area, a wardrobe, and enough surfaces to spread out the contents of your suitcase. The bathroom has a walk-in rain shower, a large sink, a toilet, and a beautiful natural stone bathtub. Here comes the second of my 3 suggestions for improvement. At least on Agoda, the selection of photos gives the impression that the honeymoon suites have 2 bathtubs – one in the bathroom and one on the terrace. However, this is not the case. There are two types of honeymoon suites: one has the bathtub outside and only a shower inside, and the other has both the shower and bathtub in the bathroom, like my room, which is why I unfortunately couldn't look at the stars while bathing. I was told upon checkout that this must be requested before arrival if you want the bathtub outside. Here I can recommend the chat function or email to everyone.
