The location across the street from the tourist office is excellent, as we came to Vieng Xai to see the caves. It was about a 1km walk into town, which offers a couple of dining options since the hotel's restaurant was never open. The room was comfortable enough, good for two nights.
Disappointed. Great for the caves visit - which qas fantastic. You need to be aware of how far out of town this actually is. The through bus stop to hanoi (vietnam border) is a 2.5km walk as there are bo taxis or tuk tuks The reataurant here was closed - this should be made clear that during low season there is no restaurant. We booked on agoda snd had fully paid but were still woken at 8am by one of the workers for payment. We had to get all the documents together from agoda. Perhaps there shouks
When we arrived (had booked on agoda) the place was desserted. We had to get our taxi driver to call to get someone to meet us. Rooms are very basic and musty smelling. Disappointed that reataurant was closed as if is quite a walk into town and we had young children. About 10pm on the first night a local man who sounded drunk kept heavily banging on receptions door. I felt vwry uneasy about this as he was shouting. The vieng xai caves opposite are excellent but i feel there were probably much better places to stay nearer town centre.
we had a nice stay at the guesthouse. it is just in front of the cave tour office and surrounded by beautiful scenery. the bungalows are nice and clean, but expect a few insects as it is basically in middle of the jungle. there isnt any food available and dont expect many other options in vieng xai(small village).

Simple is ok; but this place is messier than a barn. Nobody there upon arrival. Eventually after we called; a girl showed up and we saw the inside of the rooms; horrible mould stench. No way sleeping into such a place could be considered. Lucky enough we managed to drive off to xam neua where there was a lot more clean option.
