I stayed at Hotel Paya Raya, Terengganu, and overall, it was a good experience. The price is affordable, cleanliness is about 80%, and room service is attentive and fast. The location is excellent, very near to tourist attractions, and check-in was smooth and easy. However, I faced a disappointing issue regarding breakfast options for children. The hotel offers free buffet breakfast for kids under 6, but there were no hot, child-friendly drinks available (such as Milo, or similar). When I requested hot milk or Milo for my kids, I was told it was not included in the buffet and had to be ordered separately — I ended up paying RM9 for a Vico. What was more concerning is that when I asked the staff about options for toddlers, they mentioned coffee or tea as alternatives. I explained that WHO and pediatric guidelines advise that caffeine should not be given to children under 6, as it can affect sleep, growth, and behavior. (For reference: The American Academy of Pediatrics states that children under 12 should avoid caffeine completely. Health Canada recommends a maximum of only 45 mg/day for children 4–6 years, roughly the amount in half a cup of tea — meaning coffee or tea is not suitable for toddlers.) As a 4-star hotel, I believe management should review this policy and include safe, non-caffeinated hot beverage options for young children, such as warm milk (with lactose-free alternatives) or juice. It feels incomplete to promote “free buffet breakfast for kids” without any suitable drink choices. Other than this issue, the hotel stay was pleasant, but I hope improvements can be made for families traveling with young children.
