Rest, relaxation & romance at a private beach”

Beautiful, well-kept and plenty of things to do

We are a couple who are used to staying in business hotels (Hilton, Conrad etc.) and have previously been to Banyan Tree, Phuket and Pimalai definitely compares to these hotels. We stayed at a beautiful pool villa on the hills overlooking the ocean and had a lovely time just eating and drinking at resort grounds (food and drink quality was up to expectations), having massages at the Pimalai Spa (really good the second day around!), snorkeling around the various southern islands, swimming in our private pool etc. I was planning this trip as a surprise birthday getaway for my boyfriend and I was really worried about the transportation (as you will need to go by car - ferry - car route to get to the resort which in total would take 2+ hours) but the resort executed it well and we arrived at the resort and back at the airport without any problems. However, it should be mentioned that the resort does group transfers and I was not expecting this as it was not highlighted to me when I arranged it. This means you may be travelling with a large (and noisy) group who may or may not keep you waiting. Further, there weren't enough seats for all of us on the last day on the ferry. May I suggest to Pimalai to allow for private transfers (as is done at Banyan Tree with choice of different luxury cars)? The resort is not cheap though and our stay here came up to the same as when we stayed at the Banyan Tree, so be prepared to spend a fair bit if you are going to spend all your time (and meals) at the resort! The Ban Kan Tiang Bay beach is pretty good - fine, powdery sands (no rocks on the Pimalai side) and the waters were fairly clear. TIP: Ask the resort for a map of the resort grounds so you can decide on which villa you would like to stay in. There are beach front suites and there are villas (with and without pools) which are set on the higher grounds of the resort overlooking the hill slope and ocean - simply beautifu

Luxury Thai beach hotel”

Wonderful location, good facilities and fantastic service.
None noted.

The Pimalai is an excellent hotel. It is situated on a long white sand beach towards the south of Koh Lanta. The resort is spread over both sides of the road with the more expensive pool villas set out on the steep hillside across the road with breathtaking views over the bay. Rooms on the beach side of the hotel are in low rise houses (2 rooms per house - one on the ground floor and one on the upper floor). All rooms have large balconies although few rooms have sea views (as with many Thai resorts the Pimalai is very much "at one with nature" so trees are not cut down to make way for sea views). The resort has two infinity pools (one in each half of the resort) which are both open to all guests. The pool in the top half of the resort offers breathtaking views of the bay. I can't comment on food at the Pimalai as there are a couple of beach bars nearby which offer fantastic food and great atmosphere at a fraction of the price ("Same Same But Different" and "Why Not Bar" spring to mind). Facilities in the hotel are second to none with tennis courts, a basketball court, ping pong table and even a croquet lawn. DVDs and books can be borrowed at no charge from the library. All in all I strongly recommend this hotel.

Truly a 5 star experience”

As you may have read from the other reviews, everything about this resort is incredibly world class. From the service to dining to transportation, everything was prepared for us with the upmost hospitality. However I noticed a lot of the negatives seem to be left out of these reviews, which gave me a sort of false expectation of Pimalai, so this review will aim to target some of those areas to provide a more realistic expectation of the resort. pros: -facilities are incredible - great views, attention to cleanliness -amazing 5 star hospitality. All employees have been trained in English and look out one step ahead for you. -rooms are well kept and comfortable -free airport transportation means you get to visit another island for free! (and ride through beautiful island scenery in a super nice boat) -BREAKFAST BUFFET IS AMAZING (but to be honest pretty similar to any other breakfast buffet you'll find in five star resorts) cons -location is sort of in the middle of nowhere. plan to spend most of your time in/around the resort or get a scooter. (koh Lanta is a great place to learn how to ride as there is little to no traffic) -Because the resort is so large, you need to take shuttles to get around. The roads are quite curvy and one might get car sick if sensitive. -you WILL encounter wild critters - frogs, large geckos, spiders etc. We found ants in our room eating our food and the resort was kind enough to upgrade us into an oceanfront suite. The resort prioritizes the preservation of native plants and animals so be prepared. Also plenty of crabs and hermit crabs along the beach at night, watch your step! -While the resort feels like a slice of heaven, the beach is rather disgusting (at least when we visited in the summer) with littered trash all along the coast. The resort does put in effort to clean up the beach in the morning, but I guess nothing that can be done about the waves constantly bringing in trash. after finding some wooden planks washed up on

Pimalai was the fifth and final stop on our last trip to Koh Lanta. The resort arranged to pick us up for our check in. The location is distant from everything, but that is part of its charm. Despite being low season, the resort was virtually fully operational, although some construction was going on. The room was fabulous, with a stunning view. Price paid just over 5000 baht. Everything was perfect in the room with all details covered…from screens on the patio doors to welcome cookies and fruit. The property is magnificent. Both pools are idyllic. The food was great and breakfast was huge. The staff were friendly and accommodating. This is high-end luxury that we have never seen so well executed in Thailand. It is very difficult to get Thai staff to maintain these standards, so we give the management a tremendous amount of credit. The complimentary trip back tot the airport was also excellent, using a combination of van and speed boat. We have no complaints about this resort and think it is an excellent value and a truly “must-do” in Koh Lanta. We will return.

Paradise on Krabi”

Exellent Beach, Clear Waters, Nicely Decorated and Clean Rooms, Enviromentally Friendly, Professional and Friendly Staff, One of the Best Hotels.
A little expensive.

Koh Lanta is a very beautiful island. The resort sits on the base of the hill and has a 900m beach. The water is clear and calm. The restaurant area, the swimming pool, the rooms and the reception area is just across the Andaman sea - absolutely lovely. Everything was as a 5 star resort should be. The staff is friendly but can be overly professional. The restaurants in the resort includes Baan Pimalai and the Seven Seas. Having dinner while the sun is setting is magical, though the food is above average but expensive. The spa is incredible, and the snorkeling trip is great. There are a few other restaurants along the beach that are cheaper and are quite nice too. Overall an unforgettable experience. Other resorts are a little dissapointing compared to Pimalai.

World rated service. Beautiful, friendly, smiling staff”

Nice room nice beach nice facility that you would expect in a five star resort. But what really stood out was the staff and people throughout the resort. They watch out for you, they predict what you would do and be a step ahead to be of your service. When we left the resort to stay a few nights at Ao Nang beach, we immediately could compare the difference between the nice smiley people in koh lanta and Pimalai specifically and the people at Ao nang. Our kids truly miss Pimalai and wish we could stay there longer. The food at breakfast was good, the dinner at their restaurant was of high quality and reasonable if you compare to prices of regular lunches in the US. Dishes between 275-350 B for seafood fried rice or pad thai and filling. The only thing is it the resort is so quiet and isolated, good for honeymooners and people looking for quality time away from stress amongst fragrant plumeria, water monitors, singing cicadas and nasty mosquitoes. Bring citronella spray and HC cream

A little bit of paradise on Earth”

Our family stayed at the pool villa on our last night in Koh Lanta. We had already spent a good part of our holidays in two other 5 start resorts. However, Pimalai was the icing on the cake. The location of the hotel might not be the best in regards to the proximity to Ban Saladan and the rest of the beaches on the island. But it is located on the most beautiful beach on Koh Lanta and it has the perfect location for it's breathtaking views of the mountains on one side and the beach on the other. In our opinion, it's truly worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived (the refreshing welcome drinks are the best we've had anywhere) to the fantastic private transfer service we recieved on our departure. The privacy and tranquility we had in our pool villa was just what we needed during our stay in Pimalai and we will definitely be coming back again! Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a memorable one.

Excellent choice Pimalai hotel.”

Located in an almost private wonderful beach, amazingly kind and helpful staff, nice food, all the amenities you might need to make your holidays perfect.
As being in a quite hidden and difficult to get place is not easy to move from the hotel to other areas of the island. Not specially cheap.

We stayed at Pimalai Resort and Spa for three nights and I must say was an amazing experience. The hotel is extremely beautiful, facing an amazing beach in the middle of the forest surrounded by nature. The rooms-we stayed at a deluxe room- are big and nice furnished with typical Thai style, all with bathtub and terrace. You have several restaurants to choose and in all of them, the food was really good. The two infinity pools are very beautiful, and also the spa is really worth it to be visited for a full treatment or just a massage. The staff was extremely kind and helpful all the time, they are very well organized and professional in any issue of your stay-transfers, special requests..- I would say is definitely worth it to pay every single bath to spend some days close to paradise at Pimalai. You have a wide range of prices from the deluxe rooms to the wonderful private pool villas, which are stunning but further from the beach, though they have best views to the sea.

Our little piece of heaven!”

We stayed in the pimalai for 4 nights on our honeymoon. This is by far one of the best if not the best hotel resort we have stayed in on our travels. The place is perfect and the staff make sure your every need is met. Everything is thought of and catered for making your stay the most relaxing and enjoyable you will ever find. The food was also as amazing, with some fine local dishes and also a few from further a field (European). All taste are covered. Just when you think things can’t get any better, you head down to the beach and the amazing service continues. There are also a few free activities to take part in, my wife and I went Canoeing. Koh Lanta as an island is an amazing wonder of beauty. With incredible beaches and beautiful little villages. We cannot recommend the pimalai enough and want to say a huge thank you to the resort and staff for making our trip so memorable.

A slice of paradise”

This is not really a 'hotel', it's so much more and we feel very privileged to have stayed 4 nights in such a wonderful place. A quiet location in the South of Koh Lanta island overlooking a great stretch of beach and out to sea for sunsets. Brilliant staff which leave a lasting impression throughout the resort. We tried all restaurants and bars, and also enjoyed the Thai cooking school (paid for activity) with chef Peng which was great fun. We also made the most of free paddle boarding and sea kayaking on offer for a little holiday exercise. Our accommodation was the bayfront deluxe room which is lower in the resort with a fantastic balcony. Very roomy and plush. Our favourite breakfasts were in the upper part of the resort (Seven Seas), 268 steps up from the lower section, but you can request an electric cart for a doorstep delivery. You feel like a rock star on the hotel transfer to Krabi via the speedboat, just adds to the overall experience. Thanks Pimalai

Our Favorite Place to Stay in Thailand”

Pimalai was our favorite resort in Thailand. Located on the Southern end of Koh Lanta, the resort is secluded, yet it still maintains reach to a few restaurants and businesses (you can walk along the beach to Same Same But Different and the Why Not Bar). We enjoyed our two night stay in a deluxe room, which was thoughtfully laid out and included a covered porch, bedroom with a couch, and open bathroom with a full size jacuzzi tub, and separate shower and toilet. Houskeeping came twice daily to tidy up, unless we requested otherwise. The resort offers a full service space, fitness center, restaurants, and access to beach toys such as stand up paddle boards. We enjoyed happy hour w/stunning views from the upper infinity pool/restaurant. We enjoyed the included breakfast buffet which included made to order coffee drinks, and a wide array of Eastern and Western options. We appreciated the ease of getting to the resort with the airport pick up and private speedboat ride. Top notch service!

pimalai resort, koh lanta, thailand”

Fantastic location on an unspoilt beach, beautiful building in keeping with the environment, wonderful facilities, especially the two infinity swimming pools and gym, great staff.
Expensive to eat and drink compared to local alternatives, prices at UK levels, which seems very unnecessary.

The Pimalai lived up to all the things we had read about it and we were not at all disappointed with the great reviews we had read before. Our deluxe room was very well equipped and spacious enough for our 6-day stay. The location is surely on the best beach in Koh lanta, and even though it is at the southern end of the island, it is only 30 mins or less to the main town/ferry. Breakfast was great, staff were wonderful and the highlight for us was the fantastic 50m infinity swimming pool and gym, air conditioned and very well equipped. Overall, we couldn't have wanted more, and I would highly recommend the Pimalai to anyone wanting a luxurious getaway.

Very unique 5* resort”

Very well run resort. It has the best location as you live south west of Koh Lanta. Here you see the most amazing sunsets every evening, and you are far from the busy streets. However, you still have a perfect little village 5 min. walking distance on the beach. Here you have all you need for basic shopping. Local massage shops, 7/eleven, good local Thai food, a small bar, scuba diving center, laundry, etc. The only draw back to this amazing resort (where we surely will return in the future) is the extremely high prices on everything. From coffees, food, spa treatments, beer and wine. It’s nearly Northern European prices, which definitely doesn’t seem very fair compared to where we are. That must also be the reason why we didn’t see anybody dining at any of the restaurants the nights we were there. People go out for dinner. Other than that we can highly recommend this amazingly located resort.

Is perfection possible???”

If it is, then Pimalai is it. From the point of booking right through to the goodbye as we arrived at Krabi airport for our flight home, the staff of Pimalai were a level above anything I have experienced before. People think of Thailand as somewhere to go to enjoy luxury at a cheaper price than other parts of the world and they would be right. Pimalai is by no means a 'cheap' destination, but it is worth every penny! Would definitely recommend and will be looking to return again in the near future! Thank you Pimalai Resort & Spa for such a memorable holiday.

Highlight of my trip”

Beautiful property. Extremely accommodating. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Honestly, I’m not sure where to start with a review of our stay here. I will say we took advantage of the airport transfer service, the spa, 3 of the restaurants, the sunrise mangrove tour, both pools, aerial yoga class, taxi service to a nearby cave trek, fitness center, activities center and happy hour at the beach bar, and the FREE breakfast buffet (to die for). They have everything you need to have an awesome stay in Koh Lanta. That being said, I had a great time getting out of the resort and exploring nearby areas of the island. It’s a little far from the main touristy attractions further north of the island but if you love nature they are right near the national park (maybe in the National Park?). Plenty of beautiful beaches and trees nearby. Can’t recommend enough. If you’re on the fence because of the price— splurge on this one. You won’t regret it.

We're so glad we stayed at Pimalai during our vacation in Ko Lanta, since it felt good to be in a luxurious resort. The breakfast was amazing... from the freshly prepared Egg Pimalai to the Thai dishes, to the pain au chocolates and lattes! We couldn't wait to go every morning! The beach is nice, with staff attending us as soon as we came down to it. We didn't try out their spa since we thought it was quite pricey considering we are in Thailand, the home of amazing low-cost massages. Our room was beautiful too and were glad we could spend our holiday there.

Gorgeous resort! ”

This place was amazing and peaceful and beautiful! Breakfast was just wonderful with tons of options and impeccable service. overall service is just top notch. Restaurants and spa are definitely expensive, but worth splurging on a special trip. One of the princesses of Thailand came to stay over while we were here, that tells me it must be one of the best in Koh Lanta. I didn't do any day trips while I was here, but there are definitely tons of options in town, even just a short walk. I loved every minute of our trip to Pimalai and would definitely go again!

Peaceful retreat ”

We stayed for 7 nights, and it was such a relaxing wonderful holiday thanks to the amazing staff at Pimalai. They really know what hospitality is all about. They all had great smile on their face and greet you in such a lovely manner - this alone made a huge impact on our day. Facility is very clean and nicely designed. Not tacky like many resorts tend to be. We took many design inspiration for our house + garden. Great infinity pool with view, and the service there is really great. Spa, although on a pricey side is very nice as well. You do get what you paid for. Only negative feedback we have is the food. Breakfast is great, but other than that food seems to be very average or below average. Seven Sea, which is their higher end restaurant, has an amazing sun set view, but the food there is very confusing. We were not happy with anything we were served for our dinner. It is a shame because everything else there is top notch!! We would recommend Pimalai to anyone.

Meets & exceeds expectations”

Pimalai is a special place. For those who like secluded luxury, stellar service, and a truly tranquil and relaxing place, you must indulge yourself here. We've stayed at many 4-5 star hotels & resorts in Thailand over the past 15 years and Pimalai is at the top. Although this was "off season", we were lucky with weather. Impeccable housekeeping, exceptional breakfast choices, commodious rooms, and true "Thai" hospitality makes this an easy decision at any time of the year. All requests are handled with aplomb and efficiency while making you feel at home. The fact that Koh Lanata is away from "things", adds to the appeal for us. Offseason doesn't present much to do however, there are excursions, tours and other activities to keep one busy. If you want relaxing privacy to get away from it all, this is the place.

4 day break”

I think Pimalai resort was perfect for our 4 day mid term break. It was still out of season, but pleasantly full with world travellers and quite a few children which always helps. The resort it self is set high on the side of the hill with a great aspect looking looking out into the bay. Koh lanta is not hugely populated like it;s neighbouring island of Krabi, thus reason for booking Pimalai. Good size villas with plunge pools, nice decorated, not overly fussy. transport was supplied by the open electric cars that zipped up and down. Breakfast was always nice with very friendly stuff, not a huge selection but nice and fresh. Lunch at the Banyan tree was good and the quality again excellent with attentive staff. Dinner at the Seven Seas, a good choice of international menu and happy to accomodate different eating habits. The pool was huge and great fun. The other facilities were good and access to the beach easy. the resort ticked all the boxes, we just wished the weather was better!!
