“Quiet Offseason Stay with Great Breakfast but Limited Amenities”

We visited Niseko during the offseason, when the ski crowds were gone and the area was quiet. The room rate was very reasonable, but as expected for summer, there were only a handful of other guests. Around the property, there were signs advertising a free shuttle service as well as free breakfast and dinner, though in the summer only breakfast is offered. The breakfast was excellent, with a good variety each morning, and the chef was friendly and welcoming. The location works best if you have a car, as getting around by public transport is limited. We relied on buses and trains, which restricted our options. The hotel is situated at a lower elevation than the main street, so pushing luggage uphill to reach it was a bit of a workout. Being a resort area, most nearby restaurants are high-end and pricey, and many close during the offseason—so budget dining choices were scarce. The property uses self check-in and check-out, which was convenient. The beds, however, had spring mattresses where the springs could be felt, which might be uncomfortable for some. Overall, our stay was peaceful and quiet—exactly what we were looking for.

“Highly recommended place to stay in Niseko Hirafu”

I had a really great stay at this hostel. The price was very reasonable, definitely budget-friendly without sacrificing comfort. The facilities were clean and everything you need was provided, from clean towels, toothbrush, toothpaste (everyday). The location was excellent and very convenient, there’s a free-shuttle bus stop close to the hostel. Few minutes walk from convenience stores, restaurants, which made getting around and finding food super easy. Free shuttle service everyday in the morning from 0745am to 10am. And you can arrange pick up transfer from the airport with a reasonable price. Free pick up from Grand Hirafu on the day of check in so that’s a plus. What made the stay even better was the staff. They were friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help with directions and recommendations. I remember on my first day, Judy helped me with contacting Rhythm to pick me up for my fitting. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable place to stay in Niseko.

“Budget friendly Hirafu hostel with compromises”

Stayed in the male dorms (pods), pods were pretty big, locked, and had lights & power inside. They’re also creaked whenever someone moved. The dorms were pretty cramped. Minimal space to unpack a bag, or hang clothing items. They also don’t haven’t working heat, so there are space heaters everywhere. Dorms would be better if they add more space to hang gear after a day on the hill and had a way to open a window or get some fresh air in. Breakfast and a morning shuttle bus were really handy. There is one tiny fridge for everyone to share. Laundry is free. The front common room was freezing cold most of the time. That was a hangout spot for many people and most people were wearing all their ski gear to stay warm. You get good value at QFox, but you’re definitely compromising on cleanliness, comfort, and space. They have the potential to be an excellent hostel/pod hotel with a few improvements.

    “Great value”

This place was an awesome bargain for a solo traveler on a budget. The price point was well worth it for the location, the facilities and services provided as well as the included buffet breakfast. I really liked that they had a storage room to store your ski equipment, they offered free shuttle rides to Welcome Center from 7:45-11AM, laundry machines available as well as a break room to hang out in. This is a good choice to also meet people as a solo traveler since you are sharing a room full of capsule rooms with other guests. The only complaint was the cleanliness of the actual shared room itself but that is really hit or miss. It really depends on the other roommates and how clean and thoughtful they are about keeping the room clean. I had one reservation for one night that the room was a mess, but on my second reservation for the rest of my nights the room was cleaner and the roommates were more reserved and to themselves.

    Double Bed Room

    “The little hotel that could!”

Q Fox Black Diamond was an unexpected gem of a hotel. It's modest in stature but delivered above our expectations. We did run into a minor snafu in that we booked a room w/ 2 twins and ended up with a single double. I think this is more an issue w/ the Agoda platform as the booking appeared as a standard double w/ a request for a twin appended as a note. Overall the room was small but functional and clean. As someone with a chronic back issue, the bed was firm and comfortable enough. I do wish they had more hooks on the wall for hanging things as there isn't much storage/organization hardware. On the ground floor there is a ski/snowboard storage room for storing your gear. On the included meals side, the buffet breakfast was pretty good, as well as the bbq/hot pot dinners. We did the daily breakfast but changed it up and ate a few dinners out in Hirafu. Tbh our dinners at Q Fox were the best value/most fun. The meats were of a decent quality, and there was some variety. The nightly karaoke is a must to experience - what a vibe! And for the comments about the hired singer being terrible, y'all are just being mean. The "hired" singer is one of the lovely staff members who sings mainly when there aren't any customer requests queued up just to keep things rolling - she carries a tune just fine. Where this hotel really shines is the staff. All the drivers and hotel staff were amazingly friendly people. We met Polly upon check-in and became fast friends (and even sang a couple karaoke songs together). She made every attempt to remedy our twin bed situation and presented a few options. For the comments about never being able to find a staff member at reception, I will add there are fixed hours - it's not 24hrs. There is however also a phone number (English-speaking), and a Whatsapp account you can message if you need something and can't find anyone.  We appreciated the free pick-up/drop-off from the Hirafu Welcome centre upon our arrival/departure, you just need to let them know. And the free daily shuttle buses to the slopes in the morning was a great plus, this is first-come first served and you just wait your turn by the bar in the morning. The hotel is located at the bottom of lower Hirafu, about a 20 min walk back from the slopes. It can get a bit icy so if you have micro spikes they will only make your life easier, but aren't a necessity. We only saw the free red shuttle bus once at the stop by the hotel so you can expect to forget about using it and walk like everyone else. Overall I would recommend Q Fox Black Diamond. And if you decide to stay somewhere else, at least come for dinner and karaoke!
