Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) I recently stayed here for 3 nights. This 5-star hotel is truly grand and majestic, offering a sense of scale that you rarely find in newer properties. While I enjoyed my stay overall, there is a distinct contrast between its magnificent bones and the signs of aging. The Property & Facilities The grounds are breathtaking. It feels like staying in a lush, tropical garden with trees everywhere, providing wonderful shade and a serene atmosphere. The swimming pool is massive and definitely a highlight—excellent value for the price. However, because the property is so large and old, some areas seem neglected or "abandoned," showing a lack of consistent maintenance. The Room & Comfort • The Bed: Excellent. Firm and supportive, which was great for my back. • The Bathroom: Very spacious with a separate bathtub and shower. However, the age (30+ years) is showing. • The Issue: The shower cabin lacks proper sealing. Every time I showered, water leaked out from the bottom, flooding the entire bathroom floor. • Maintenance Needed: The showerhead was covered in limescale and algae buildup. It definitely needs a replacement, though the hot water system worked perfectly. The Air Conditioning Saga The AC system is quite old (central pipe system) and very temperamental. • First Room: It stayed at a stifling 27°C. Even after a technician checked it, they couldn't fix it because "it wasn't broken, just weak." • Second Room: After moving rooms late at night, I went to the other extreme. The room felt like a refrigerator at 10°C! Since I didn't want to move a third time, I spent the next 3 nights wearing a winter coat inside the room to stay warm. Service & Staffing On New Year’s Eve, the hotel was packed with long queues stretching out the door. My main concern, however, was during checkout. Despite there being 4-5 groups waiting, there was only one receptionist on duty. This poor staff member had to handle check-ins, check-outs, phone calls, room service orders, and security deposit refunds all at once. Management really needs to hire more front-desk staff or train other departments to assist during peak hours. The current staffing level doesn't match a 5-star standard. Summary Despite the quirks and the "extreme" temperatures, I had a pleasant stay. The grandeur and the value for money are definitely there, but you have to be prepared for some "vintage" challenges.
