Sabah State hotels & places to stay

Spent a week in the spa suite apartments for the family and we absolutely enjoyed ourselves. The location was ideal for those seeking to get away from the busy city, while still remain close to amenities. We rented a car at affordable rates from a local car rental company, and used a mobile app called WAZE to get around - driving around was easy since the app had the most accurate and up-to-date information. Having spent 7 days in the resort, we got around easily to the local restaurants for the best seafood - very cheap and fresh. Check out Gayang Restaurant and their cheap and fresh lobsters and crabs. Convenience shops like 7-11 were everywhere and there is a large supermarket called GIANT just 10 mins from the resort (google "Taman Indah Permai"). Our younger son (age 5) caught a cold and there's a very good and experienced paediatrician called Dr Jeffrey Soon about 30 mins drive away (Lot 66, Lrg Zirafah 10A , Taman Layang Layang , Luyang, 88300 Kota KInabalu), where we got him treated. Around the resort, there's a gorgeous golf course sandwiched between the mountain ridge and the beaches. And there's also a water theme park called "Lagoon Park", where we spent a day with water activities. Generally, while the resort may be about 45 mins drive from the city, there are enough facilities and things for my family to enjoy. The hotel staff were extremely prompt in their responsiveness to our requests (extra towels, utensils for cooking, etc). Very warm and friendly. The stringent security checkpoints also made us feel safe and secure throughout our stay. We had a good deal for this booking via Agoda. Paid for the price of a 4 star hotel but it really felt more like a 5 star. Highly recommended for couples looking for a private place as well as for families looking to get some peace and quiet.

We live in courtyard which on the 7th floor, It's a room in a middle of rooms. So the view is the passageway of the opposite rooms. We love x2 single bed, it's so comfy. I just hope that TV channels have HBO & MTV. We love the breakfast choices. It's very unfortunate we didn't get to sit near the view (since it's rooftop). We love how the attraction area which is the waterfront around 5mins from the hotel and Centrepoint Sabah less than 5mins (it's infront! of the hotel). We live there for 3 days and 2 nights and we just walk from the hotel to Imago and Suria Sabah which definitely an adventure! it's very unfortunate for us, we couldn't see the sunset view because it's rainy season. Overall definitely will come back to this hotel!

It was with much contemplation when I decided to stay at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu during my recent vacation to Sabah. I had a very bad experience with the Hyatt Regency in Kuantan but I decided to go ahead due to the mostly positive reviews on Tripadvisor and other review sites. I am glad to report that my stay at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu was a wonderful experience. The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside but the room was spacious and quite tastefully decorated. The art pieces, glowing bathroom counter and the recessed wall for the TV with the ambient lighting were nice touches. However the one unique feature that I enjoyed the most was the rain shower in the bathroom. One minor gripe is that there is no wifi internet in the room. There is wired internet but I was using a tablet. The hotel is located next to the waterfront and in the heart of the city. It is a short walk to the night market and handicraft market located along the waterfront. It is also a stone throw from Gaya street which is transformed into a street market on Sunday. Just a little further away but still well within walking distance are the Suria Sabah shopping mall and Jesselton Point, where you can catch the ferries to the nearby islands.

the hotel offers transport between the 2 bedroom suites (about 3 kms away) and the main hotel accommodation/reception, but i think a car is a must if you want to have a look around the area. we hired a car at the airport and used it for the week to visit the various attractions around sabah. there was no problems driving around in a hire car and it provided us with loads of flexibility for exploring the local eating locations for dinner and tourist attractions. we found the meals at the hotel quite expensive considering we have two teenage boys who love lots of food. we played tennis on the hotels courts several times but they are really in bad shape and badly in need of renovation. the 2 bedroom suite we stayed in had great views over the beach, had a lovely outlook over the water during the buffet breakfast, and was well appointed, even with free internet access.

The hotel/resort is a very very beautiful place... very quiet and tranquil.. The only drawback was that the resort is quit far from the main city.. Food is good especially the one where we dine at "TEPI LAUT".. The room is spacious and I really appreciate the mini pool by the balcony.. Staffs are helpful and very attentive.. If it weren't for the distance between the main city and the hotel, this resort would be really really nice... But, I like the gestures made by the hotel to abate the distances issue, they provide shuttle bus going to and forth from the hotel to the main city...

we went there as part of our honeymoon trip, we stayed in the palm villa for 4 nights, it is their best room and it is something you shouldn;t miss. the breakfast comes to you by boat, the view from the room is wow; you can easily jump to snorkel from you own deck, the swimming pool is small and cold though (in the pictures it looked much bigger); the staff are wonderful, they try to help you by all means and they;re always smiling. we just had a small incident where a big rat (they have a different name for it) entered to the room at 4 in the morning and disappeared inside the room. One guy from the front desk was nice enough to come over and check the room then move us to another one. the next day the duty manager explained to us that such kind of rats when they smell food inside the house they make a hole inside the wood and they penetrate, they're very smart not to be cought, but at the same time they;re not harmful. they hotel is eco friendly so they cannot put chemicals for animals (snakes, monkeys, rats etc...)but usually in the palm villas such incidents rarely happen as it is a bit far from the jungle, you can expect lots of incidents in the jugle view villas. just try to keep the door closed at night. the food was not as good as expected but not bad neither, you can just take the boat going to the mainland and go to the mall next to the jesselton point (it's called suria something ( maybe gaya mall also) or go to the centerpoint mall where you can have some good massage for cheap price (around 60RM per hour) where in the hotel it's for 240 RM

I stayed at the Hotel Grandis for two nights with my family of four. We booked a deluxe family room and requested a higher-floor room. Our room was on 11/F with a side view of the ocean which was great. Make sure you request a higher- floor room 'coz you won't be able to get any views if you're at the lower floors as the hotel is right next to the Suria Sabah Mall. In fact, the address of the hotel is at the mall, which makes it really convenient for us to buy fruits and souvenirs from the supermarket as well as shopping. At least you got somewhere to go when there's a rainstorm. The Suria Sabah mall is a new, modern shopping arcade where you can find brand-name stores. Apart from being right next to the mall, it's also very close to the jetty/Jesselton Point. If you plan to go island hopping or join the Borneo Reef tour this hotel would be perfect for you 'coz it's only around 5 minutes walk from the hotel to both jetties. The room itself is very clean, spacious and modern. I'm impressed by the shower facilities. The bed and pillows are comfy too. One thing I would complain about is that there were only two glasses in the bathroom when it's a four-person family room. There's a swimming pool on the rooftop which gives fantastic view of the city and the ocean. Great for sunbathing and a dip. They also provide towels for rent. Too bad the weather wasn't too good during my stay. It is the perfect spot to watch a sunset. Staff were quite friendly and helpful, but definitely not too experienced. The worst part about this hotel would be the food. We ordered some drinks at the SkyBlu bar beside the pool and they really weren't up-to-standard. The mango lassi tasted watery and there's only a slight hint of mango. Breakfast was so-so, not particularly impressive. Overall it's a nice hotel value for money. I do recommend it for a short stay, as a resting place for your daytime adventures at sea! Do check out the rooftop pool!

That is the best part of my ten days in Sabah. When I first come into the lobby, I like the hotel at once. Then swimming pool and gym give me the excellent feeling, because the convenient designing and wonderful view of the sea. In the evening, I can enjoy delicious food with the paradise sound-piano playing by a handsome middle aged man, I hope I can have another chance to stay in this hotel.By the way, the front table staff help me a lot, esp help me to be a member of SPG, and let me get amount of discount from my meals.Thanks a lot.

For what you pay, this 3-star hotel offers excellent value. Although the furniture is scuffed and the toilet (depending on the room you get) can be a little small, both room and toilet are clean, and the bed is comfortable. For those who like their television, do note that there are very limited channels. For light sleepers, do note that noises from the hallway are audible. The staff are polite and helpful - they helped us rent a car with no problems. The breakfast buffet is small with more Asian choices than Western. The location is excellent with the various tourist attractions within 15-20 minutes' walk, and for those who intend to travel to other parts of Sabah, the various buses/vans for transport are right in front of the hotel, including the airport bus from KKIA (RM5 per person one way).

Extremely pleased with my stay here. Reception staff was extremely friendly and helpful on all manners. It’s a fairly new hotel, hence everything else in a good condition. 5 min walking distance to jetty if you are planning for island hopping. There is a mall nearby known as Suria Sabah and down the road there is a street known as Gaya street. It’s a must to visit their Sunday market if you happened to spend you weekend in Sabah. Overall good stay, money well spent and I would love to come back again.

Sabah Beach Villas and Suites is always exceptional. The staff were once again very kind and accommodating. The housekeeping did a amazing job cleaning our room and accommodated our awkward schedule accordingly. We stayed in the same room as last year and all of the minor issues from the previous year had been fixed. The beach is right in front of the property and has some of the best sunsets in KK, in my opinion. The resort is a bit far from downtown, but there are plenty of Grab drivers waiting to take you anywhere you want. If you want a quiet place to relax and enjoy your holiday definitely book with Sabah Beach Villas and Suites. I can’t say enough good things about my stay. I hope to see you again soon.

We booked two rooms, and one room was not ready, not until 4pm. This is the one and only 3 star hotel in Semporna, and given the price it is a pretty good deal. The room is of decent space, with a tiny bathroom. It has a small swimming pool with slides; kids definitely enjoy it. A bar that closes at 2am in the morning. Only took breakfast in the hotel, price is cheap and enough selection of food for a decent breakfast. Close to all the snorkelling/diving agents (about 10 minutes stroll to the town). Close to local restaurants, though seafood was not as cheap as I would have expected. A very concentrated Muslim area, no pork served. Westerners tend to hang out near the inns and bars in town, with menu that is customised for them; both price and dishes.

actually this is the best choice hotel in sabah, kota kinabalu. the value of charge is worth as service and room is good. we can say is 3 stars charge but 5 stars hotel service and room design is modern and comfortable. also many restaurants around this hotel and the sunday market just infrant the street. only the problem is house keeping. the day we stay in excutive suite for business but early morning we go out and switch on the housekeeping light. till 2.25pm we back to hotel with many of my business friend for meeting in room but the room not serve yet. call to reception they mention today is fully booked will call to house keeping to solve the problem. when i go out the house keeping just near the lift to serve room, i asked them why early till now didn't serve my room? they reply as fully booked and aslo not friendly. i am angry to told them that we stay in excutive deluxe room, it is unfair for me and also i am no face as all my business friend go in to my room but room still not clean. actually this is the best hotel hope the manager can concern about this as fully booked is not a good reason to explain to the guset of this hotel.

It was a really comfortable stay. The service is great and the staff were really professional. I'm not too happy because they didn't let each room have a kettle. But on each level, near the lift, there's a water cooler if you need water hot, warm and cold. The ironing facility is also located at the same place. So, all is good I think. The hotel is located near lots of restaurants and food court. My favourite was Fook Yuen which served halal economy food. Nearby is also the Guardian pharmacy/health n wellness store if you need toilettries or drinking water. The hotel is located in the CBD and it's around 15minutes walk to Wawasan Plaza public bus terminal, if you're a fast walker. At the bus stop opposite Centre Point, you can also take City Bus for 50cents, a loop bus service that takes you along the CBD/waterfront shopping complexes. The loop service covers the are from Wawasan Plaza bus terminal till the Suria Sabah shopping complex. From Suria Sabah, Jesselton Point is less than 5 minutes away and Jesselton Point is the jetty where you can take boats for day trips to Manukan Island and other islands for very affordable rates. I really enjoyed my stay at Cititel Express. I'd definitely recommend it to all my family and friends.

It was my first time vacation at semporna,sabah. All about services at dragon inn I was very satisfied but in rural areas dragon inn there's still have a rubbish floating coming from nearby towns. I hope the relevant authorities will solve this problem because the city view and ocean beautiful become unsightly. its also give effect at dragon inn view.so,for the best feedback in future please take priority this issue.tq

Everything is good about this hotel especially regarding its location. It is located inside the Warisan Square area, Starbucks is just right in front of the hotel, Centrepoint Sabah is on the left side of the hotel (with just few walk) and the newly Oceanus Mall is also near the hotel. The cleanliness and its facilities are rather good and the staff is really friendly. The room is quite big and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has big family. It is not just because its comfortable, it is also affordable. This hotel is worth for money. As this was my second time staying in the hotel, I would definitely stay for the third time when I visit Sabah again.

we had a very enjoyable stay. comfortable rooms, conveniently located near the airport (less than 10 mins) for early morning flights. best buffet breakfast i've ever had...lots of choices; malay,indian,chinese/japanese and western. you won't want to leave the dining room!! comfortable pool area; covered bar area with super comfortable sofa-like seats;very breezy,nice view of the state mosque and surrounding area from the pool . excellent staff; if you're just thinking about the possibility of wanting something, they can almost sense it, and you'll find them right there waiting to help. there's just nothing negative to say about the ming garden. the hotel is a little away from the core of kk, but walkable. we trekked into town for lunch or dinner whenever we needed to. just 20 mins to the post office. the door men will be willing to hail a taxi for you, if you choose that alternative.

It is not my first time in Sabah, and I had stayed with this host and accommodation before as from my previous experience of staying here as well as the positive words from my peers and friends, I know that I just had to stay at the same place again. And boy I was not wrong in making the decision to stay back at the same place. The host, Mr Nicholas Vun was as gracious and helpful as ever and really had conveniently helped me in arranging trips and places to visit in Kota Kinabalu for me. Furthermore, the accommodation had been well prepared for my arrival; the rooms are clean and there are not even a speck of dust insight, literally. Therefore to all of you out there who would love to visit the beautiful Land below the Wind of Sabah, seek no more as I really really recommend this place for you to stay with and have a great trip!

this hotel is much better than another hotel i stayed with almost the same price. the hotel is conveniently located near some shopping malls ,travel agencies, convenient stores and some overnight food stores are right round the corner. this is a location even better than those at 'city centre' around the night market because the area of best western is cleaner and with a very mordern shopping mall, suria sabah, with a cinema (3d movies available), and the travel agencies are very important to inexperienced travellers. the night market and alike are in fact within 15 min walk when you want to take a look. the staff are nice and helpful. the breakfast served is better than i expect for such a price. the wi-fi in the room does not always work, but the convenience of staying inside the room is something not every hotel in kota kinabalu can offer. the city view from the window is refreshing as well.

Location is top notched. In the vicinity of many famous food shops and cafes. Right outside of the Gaya Street Sunday market. 5 minutes drive away from Centrepoint, 10 minutes drive away from Sabah Art Gallery and the Sabah State Museum. Service was amazing! Was upgraded to a bigger room for free. Bell boys were always there to open the door and greet you with a smile. Free airport transfer too!

Lovely hotel with good facilities, friendly staff & good prompt service. Only location is a little far from Kota Kinabalu town. But have one borneo mall, which was more than sufficient for our shopping or dining needs, but could increase in Sabah products whether food, clothes, accesories, decorative items, etc. (to specify clearly it is Sabah products). Hotel Food was good but breakfast variety could be more. hotel transport could be more reasonably priced.

it was nearby jetty with walking distance, advantage for those who want to visit those island, eg sapi island,manukan island and so on. it's also surrounded by shopping mall, those included wisma merdeka, borneo sabah,wisma warisan and many. it is also many dining restaurant,include bak kut teh and famous sabah food. the hotel staff provided good service to us. and the facility is also available in good condition.
