Siuolin Township hotels & places to stay

at first i had only booked one night at the silks palace. but after reading through my lonely planet book i decided that one day in taroko national park was not enough. (this turned out to be true, and i would recommend people to at least go for to days, but there is plenty to discover if you like hiking...). therefore, i booked an extra night at the hotel. unfortunately, there were no more mountain view double rooms available which was what i had booked for the first night, so i took my chances and booked a twin room on day two, and thought that it could still work out although it would be annoying that we then had to check out of our room and "move" into a new room the they after.. when we came to the hotel the staff was really nice and helpful. since we where hungry when we arrived the receptionist suggested that we went to enjoy a meal in their restaurant and then she would see what she could do so we could stay in one room during our stay. when we came back from a great dinner at the hotels chinese style restaurant, the receptionist had found a river view double room for us so we did not have to change rooms or sleep in twin beds as we had expected :). i was really thankful for this nice service and i really had the impression that the staff really did the best to help the guests during my stay. i would clearly recommend other people to go here as well.

The absolute best feature of this place is the location. It's smack dab in the middle of Taroko Park, allowing you to tap into the feeling of nature and isolation. It's even a short walk from the small town it's located in, truly affording a feel of solitude. Rooms have beautiful views of the surrounding gorge, and are clean too! I loved the staff as well. They made sure I had everything I needed, and answered a ton of questions as well. The breakfast was wonderful, the live musicians at night were very talented, and I made quite a few good friends on the patio outside! I loved exploring the many stories and areas of the facility, and reading the various historical plaques they had put up as well. I wish I had more time here! It's a great place to meet new friends and relax. They also have a small convenience store with basic items.

the hotel is beautifully situated right in bulowan, taroko national park, and is definitely meant for those that appreciate being in natural surroundings. from the moment you drive up the hill to the hotel entrance, you are awed by the gorgeous views all around. it's not your typical hotel experience, more like upscale camping, since the rooms are in cabins arranged around a couple of large lawn areas. however the rooms have everything needed - bathroom with sink, blow dryer, toiletries, toilet and shower, comfy beds, tv, free wi-fi, hot pot w/ coffee/tea. the highlight of one night was the aboriginal meal and show that was held under the stars featuring atayal children. we didn't understand much since it was all in mandarin, but i enjoyed it anyway. the second night there was a different show with new performers and a bilingual guest helped translate in english. the food was a variety of aboriginal, asian and western selections buffet style. unfortunately the first night there was a large tour group that wiped out the dessert choices before we could sample any, but who needs the extra calories? we highly recommend taking the full day gorge tour with li, arranged by the hotel. she spoke minimal english but was still able to explain the sites and make sure we experienced all the stops to the fullest.

Good location, near the entrance of the Taroko National Park and the bus stops. Liwu Hotel is old but well-kept. It bears with it a character so warm and familial, it made our stay relaxing and restful. It seems the hotel is family-run---based on the reviews I read. The staff speak little English but they were able to anticipate and help us with our concerns. We ate all our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel, and we always looked forward to the very tasty beef noodles after a day of hiking; all the meals were tasty and well prepared. The free buffet breakfast that came with the booking was ample and filling. If I ever go back to Taroko, I would stay at Liwu Hotel again.

We booked 3 nights in November, based on Agoda reviews and the big factor being the hosts were so friendly. I can happily report that we have nothing but positive feedback for the hosts! Lisa and Boya were welcoming, friendly and always willing to go above and beyond to provide assistance (more below). Do not be intimidated by the drive to the farmstay, the tight (almost one way) back-alley-esque roads eventually open up into a quaint farmstay on a large plot of land. If you arrive at night, you will be welcomed with a beautiful view of the mountains in the morning. Plenty of room to park, just be quick in and out of the car/room so that mosquitos don't get in. You are well away from the city life, so yes lizards and bugs will be ever present (but not in your room). Though we were a couple, we had 2 double beds, so the rooms are more than large enough. Private bathroom, but shared kitchen/dining area downstairs. It is not like a hostel, as there are only 5 rooms, so you can choose to get to know the other guests or not. House is a little old, but all facilities are clean and work an absolute treat (especially the AC). Lack of powerpoints near the bed, meant we had to improvise a bit with charging electronics. Location is excellent. 10 minute drive (or maybe less?) to the Taroko entry gate. This was great, as we always left early to beat the crowds (recommend to finish by lunch, lest be flooded by tour buses). Lisa and Boya were always up before us ready with a delicious breakfast (vegetarians can be accommodated), and of course fresh coffee. It is a coffee farm afterall. You could not ask for a more friendly host couple. Within an hour or two of booking, Lisa had messaged us on Whatsapp in greeting and preparation for our arrival (even though it was months out!!!). When we arrived, Lisa was harvesting coffee beans from their orchard - don't forget to partake in this if you get the chance! This was one of the best hotel/hostel/airbnb/B &B experiences I have ever had. The host couple and their kids are some of the nicest people I have met on Planet Earth. Excellent breakfast, stunning and spacious rooms, and great views from the balcony. They'll pick you up from the Hualien Train Station a couple of times, otherwise it's a 15 minute ride, which will cost $7-8. I cannot imagine that this place could disappoint you in any way.

Love the couple who builded this home stay. We were welcome by their special tea mixed with fresh leaves from their back garden. I will miss this very much when back to my home country. They were friendly & shared with us a lot about their taroko culture & history & many others things. We booked 8-hour day trip to Taroko with Wen-ba, the owner, & it was awesome. Wen-ba is such a fantastic guy with many stories to tell. we had lots of fun & has no regret joining the day trip leaded by Wen-ba. Timing was flexible & no rushing here & there, hence, we had an enjoyable day together. It was a good & relaxing day trip. Although the room has no TV & only face towel & other basic amenities were provided for environmental friendly reason & back to basic lifestyle, it was fine with us after all. We booked their dinner too. Wen-ma is a good & creative cook. I highly recommended this home stay to those who enjoy nice people, healthy & colourful breakfast & relaxing place.

Stayed for 2 nights. Basic yet great service and hospitality. Rooms were clean and offered an amazing view of the city. We enjoyed tea on the terrace while gazing at the city lights below us. Perfect location for those who want fresh mountain air and city life, which is only a 15 min ride away. For people who arrive before 3:30pm, do call up the hotel in advance to ensure that they are prepared. Great for family with kids and senior citizens.

We are truly grateful to Maggie for welcoming us into her beautiful home, and making our stay so comfortable with her warm hospitality. She was ever so attentive to our needs, lending us her heater and taking special care to note our dietary requirements (even making it her personal mission to discover our food preferences through her yummy cooking). Although Viasea is a bit of a distance from Hualien main city, it’s much nearer to Taroko National Park and coming back to this lovely residence is worth the travel from the city. We’re also grateful for Maggie’s advise and recommendations on directions - especially since neither of us spoke Mandarin. Thank you Maggie for the loveliest stay!

It was Awesome. My family and I (6 Pax) Enjoyed our stay here thoroughly. We stayed for 2 nights. Initially it was rather hard to get to the hotel and when we reached the hotel (which happens to be a homestay) we were greeted by the back of the hotel which happens to be shabbily kept as the paints are wearing off. We were greeted by a heartwarming smile my the female owner and was brought down to the reception area. As we walked down,it was magical to see a different side of the homestay. It was so pretty and nicely renovated. They have full length glass windows overlooking mountains and the city area. Day or Night, the city was awesome. The owners introduced us to Hualien and even gives us suggestions of places to visit in Hualien. They unfortunately cannot bring us around as their car could only cater to 4pax only. The Male Owner used to be a chef. Breakfast was prepared by him personally. Breakfast was simply AWESOME. As our train tickets to taipei was in the evening, they even allowed us to stay for a few more hours before making our departure. Nice friendly helpful folks. I most definitely will visit Ask Cloud Villa again. Nice place to relax and renew your soul.
