Conveniently located in the lively Bugis area, this hotel is a short walk from Bugis Market, Bugis Junction mall, and an MRT station. The rooms are clean, spacious, and have their own individual charm. Guests appreciate the friendly and attentive staff who provide excellent customer service. Hotel South East Asia is located in the center of Singapore, specifically in the Bugis and Kampung Glam areas. The hotel's location is very strategic as it is close to public transportation, food courts, and souvenir markets. This makes it very convenient for tourists. The hotel area is quite busy, yet remains calm and comfortable. The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful both during check-in/out and while staying at the hotel. Although the hotel appears old, it is very well maintained and clean. Every day the rooms are tidied up and new amenities are provided. The room conditions are quite spacious, with a comfortable bed and cold air conditioning. Since it is an old hotel, there is still a ceiling fan in the room... However, this actually helps to cool down the room more quickly. Only a few interior items in the room may need to be replaced, such as the carpets which seem old, to enhance the room's condition to be more beautiful and aesthetic. But overall.... It was a pleasant experience staying at Hotel South East Asia. Thank you.
We were a group of three and stayed at this hotel for three nights. The location was excellent—very convenient—and the staff were friendly and welcoming. However, we had a very unsettling experience on our first night. While I was taking a shower in the bathroom and my friends were chatting on their beds, one of them suddenly knocked on the bathroom door. When I opened it, she said she heard me calling her name from inside. The strange part is—I hadn’t called anyone. Our other friend also claimed she heard the same thing. It was a very eerie moment, and it left us feeling uncomfortable for the rest of the stay. I even kept the bathroom door open while showering because I was so spooked. None of us slept well that night. On top of that, we noticed on the first day that the mirror in the room was oddly placed—directly facing one of my friend’s bed. It gave us a really creepy feeling. I remember reading that mirrors facing the bed are considered bad feng shui, and whether or not you believe in that, it definitely added to the unsettling vibe. Aside from that, the room lacked some basic amenities like complimentary tissues, slippers, and there was no bidet in the toilet, which was very inconvenient. Another thing that made us uneasy was that we were required to leave our room key at the front desk every time we went out. While this might be standard for some hotels, it felt uncomfortable knowing that someone else could potentially access our room without our knowledge. Still, considering the low price we paid, we tried to manage our expectations. That said, the creepy experience on the first night left a lasting impression, and I don’t think I’d choose to stay here again.

This traditional Hotel is in a unique location, close to two significant temples in a pedestrianised block, full of flower stalls and stores providing religious items. Off the 'tourist trail', this area is full of atmosphere, serving the needs of local residents and quietly fascinating. It is quiet, but secure in the evenings. The hotel is surrounded by eateries, near to markets and close to several very useful MRT stations. We were particularly impressed by the caring staff. The rooms have plenty of storage, with basic furnishings and bathrooms, but are cleaned daily. Air-con and overhead fans are adequate, and the windows can be opened for an overnight breeeze.

I didn’t see all the horrible reviews of this place till I checked in and was immediately on alert. I had my child sit on the toilet while I showered to scout for cockroaches. I saw none, not once. For those who were complaining, you’re getting a hotel in prime downtown location within walking distance to literally everything for $***-$***a night in Singapore, what did you expect? White glove service with rose pedal bathtubs? The room is quite spacious, and the decor/furniture is outdated. Well, I guess part of your hotel stay price didn’t go towards the renovations. There were some peeling paints and some stains on walls and etc. but that didn’t bother me. I know what I paid for, and I am staying in it. The bed is decently soft for a hotel in Southeast Asia, the sheets were clean, towels were also clean. The bathroom was clean except for stains what looked like there unable to be scrubbed. The room came with couple of bars of soup and hair shampoo. The receptionist is 24/7 and you can get a hair dryer from the receptionist if you need it. The location is absolutely the most amazing part about this hotel. The ease of not having to take an MRT or walk 25 minutes in 35 degrees weather with 78% humidity makes all the cons of the place being outdated go away. If you’re going to pay this price point, please do not expect service of a ritz Carlton. It’s just not feasible. Treat Singapore as New York prides with a 20% discount. Then maybe you’ll feel better about this hotel. Good start (old uncles cleaning rooms) and nice ladies at reception. If you’re on a budget and doesn’t wanna be 40 minutes public transportation what, you’ve found your spot. Now enjoy Singapore!
