Where to stay in Thamel
Thamel hotels & accommodations

Nice 5 Star hotel in a good location only 20 minutes walk from Thamel. You wouldn't believe that you are in the centre of the hectic city because it is away from the main road and has big, nicely tended gardens surrounding it. Only one concern for Muslim guests is that the hotel advertises the restaurant as "Halal" which it is incorrect as pork is served at the buff...

As our original booking at some other hotel was canceled by Agoda at short notice we had to quickly book something else (while already on the way to the airport. Agoda suggested some options and one was the new Royal Penguin. We were pleasantly surprised as we found a hotel in the heart of Thamel with well-trained and very friendly staff, with with well-kept rooms (ok,...

This hotel brings exceptional value money. I will certainly recommend this to my friends and I will list the pros and cons to help you decide. Pros: ~Exceptional staff who genuinely tries to give you a good service. ~The choice of food in the buffet breakfast was good. I have stayed in Royal peguin boutique hotel in Thamel as well which is a so called 4 star deluxe b...

The hotel is in a great location, quite close to Thamel area. The staff are friendly and helpful but it does not have the 5 star appeal of other hotels we have stayed at. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the Indian restaurant was excellent. The pool and surrounding area is pleasant with a good bar area serving food. The room service staff added extra base c...

Just slightly pricier than the average hotel in Thamel, but worth every cent. We stayed here for a night after returning from our ABC trek in Pokhara. Located in a quieter area of Thamel but still very accessible. The decor, look and feel of the entire hotel sets it apart from other hotels. It's extremely warm and inviting and feels a bit like an upscale establishment....

Royal penguin Boutique Hotel is the new hotel in Thamel area. The staff very friendly and provided the best services to us.The room is clean and comfortable. The location also very good ,most is walking distance.I would like to say this is the best hotel in Thamel area.

Myself and my girlfriend had a wonderful time at Hotel Mulberry! When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeting with mango juice and shown to our room. We had booked a Junior Suite, which my girlfriend and I both agreed was even nicer than the pictures. The room is spacious, the beds are very comfortable and the bathroom had both a separate bath and shower. The ho...

It was our third visit (wld have been fourth if they were not fully booked) and we are still as impressed as ever with the staff. Though I would prefer to call them family. Needless to say, I love every single person in the hotel from the bellboy who greets you with a huge smile to the owner himself . It will always be our hotel of choice in Thamel as it's like our ho...

We had a great stay in this lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was great – just a 5 min walk from the centre of Thamel and some great shops, restaurants and cafés. The hot water system was also the best we experienced in Nepal.

Hotel is new and clean with glass shower rooms and impressed us as one of the modern hotels available in Kathmandu. Hotel location is near Thamel where the main tourist street is which is easily accessible by foot or taxi, except that taxi drivers aren't sure of the location just as yet. Breakfast buffet had sufficient varieties and decent. Power supply was stable. Re...

I stayed with my family on this hotel, the management and staffs were quite helpful, one small suggestion is to improve on the Internet connectivity from rooms, it's not bad but needs improvement, hotel is quite good with good breakfast ( they arranged Indian breakfast items as well which should be continued as default), the amazing part was that the owner Mr. Deepak...

Less than 5 minute walk from the heart of Thamel. Large room, clean bed, friendly & professional staff. Zero fuss at check-in. You're bound to get some noise at night in the Thamel area, so if you're a super light sleeper, bring earplugs. But this applies to any hotel in Thamel. Breakfast is decent; the fresh fruits are my favorite. Or you can choose to not get breakf...

It's in the Thamel area but on a much cleaner part. It's within walking distance to restaurants, shops, money changers, tourist attractions like the palace and garden of dreams and big name shops for hikers needs. The staff are great and they can arrange tours and flights. Breakfast has a lot of choices and cafe is open until late. I would just like to suggest to mak...

I changed to this hotel from others which were also in Thamel area . I found that therer are soundproof problem ion most of the hotels in Thamel area . Osho Home hotel was still ok for the soundproof problem and this hotel was very new and clean. I liked the breakfast very much.

After five years, I returned to my second home in Kathmandu., conveniently located in Thamel district as it is I was not disappointed. The managers and staff are as friendly and service-oriented as ever. The place remains quiet and comfortable. Very good wifi. If you don’t need or don’t want to pay for fancy hotel amenities, then this is your home too. Just righ...

I was very pleased with my stay. The hotel had recently been renovated and is modern and smart. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel location is good - there are many restaurants in the hotel and up the road and it is a short walk from Thamel. Good breakfasts.

I stayed with Jay Suites twice during my stay at Kathmandu, which itself says about my experience with it. The rooms were nice, clean and comfy. The location is good, walking distance from both Thamel or Durbar square, which makes this a nice center point. But the best part was some folks from the staff, esp the folks who sit at the reception during the day. Very frien...

We had a wonderful experience at the Kathmandu Grand Hotel. They upgrade our room free of charge. The manager and staff were incredibly helpful and informative. In terms of being friendly, helpful and providing a best hospitality couldn't find better then here. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The rooms are big, modern, comfortab...

My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Dalai-la Boutique Hotel, located in the heart of Thamel. We loved everything from the creative touch of the building to the wonderfully trained staff., which explains why we extended our stay to nearly one full month The owner, Prem, made us feel like family. He has excellent rapport with everyone in Thame...

Loved that the location was very near the main shopping district. The hotel staff were very polite and friendly and we really appreciated it. They don't make up the rooms unless you give them to key so you'll have to note that. Also the sheets were dusty, but I'm not sure if it's just a function of being in Thamel.

New hotel opened February 2018. Beautifully designed, 5-storey building, with boutique fittings, decor and fixtures, and extremely comfortable sleeping conditions. Everything in mint condition. Very professional amd accomodating staff. Ground floor breakfast restaurant did not disappoint once during our 5-night stay and included all the cappucino/espresso we could ask...

well it was nice. Situated in the heart of Thamel and definatelly worth of money. Very very nice outdoor restaurant, the food was great and the staff was very friendly. The rooms need a renovation. What is really dissapointed us, but this cooment relates to all three star hotels in Kathmandu, the power supply is problematic.

During the stay, the front office staff and room service staff were always helping. Food quality is very delicious. The only negetive in my point of view is that the kitchen closes at 9.30 PM which I feel is quite early. It should be open minimum till 11 PM.
Cheap places to stay in Thamel

i booked in agoda for only 4 dollars in one night and expected to be staying in a regular guesthouse with that price. turned out i made an excellent choice so i extended my stay fot two more nights... just few minutes walk from thamel, very nice staff, clean dorm room, big locker, good wifi connection, hot shower, blankets and towels provided, quite neighborhood and i ...

The manager Samil and Prem went way beyond their duties to ensure that my stay at the hotel was a stay that I would remember for years to come. From organising trips to information of the local area, their knowledge was exceptional. The staff at the hotel were also very, very polite and helpful in all matters and were also friendly. I was made to feel part of the Th...

I was sick of Thamel so I gave Durbar square a try (different neighborhoods). Right near Snowman for cheap coffee and cake, but a bit of a walk from thamel where my bakery and pizza and movies were...but I need the walking. The alley side rooms get no sun durning the day and can be motorcycle noisy. Comfy bed and good hot water. Very nice staff.

Located in the heart of Thamel close to all tourist services. Great value for budget minded travelers. Down a little back street away from the main streets and all the noise of the busy streets. You will still hear roosters , dogs and Nepalies going about their day and the din of the city with generally quiet nights. Everywhere in Thamel is rocking Friday and Saturday ...

Great vegetarian menu, amazing people and a warm hospitable vibe, I couldn't have asked for more. Before, after or even during (if your flight is cancelled ) trekking, Hotel Yog provided a relaxing atmosphere where you felt at home and free to be yourself. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about the area and are always willing to help you with your plans or trave...

If anyone would stay in Thamel for a couple days, Peace & Park is a suitable choice. It is located in centre of Thamel, which is a place for tourist staying. The hotel is really nice and clean. i like this guest house because of it is very close to shopping center. I stayed this guest house more then 15 times because of people are very friendly and manager San speaking Japanese so I feel like my home. I do a business here to buy a clothes and sell to Japan. Would definitely recommend Nomad to all the travelers. I loved my time at alobar1000. The staff are amazing, really welcoming and friendly and make an effort to learn your name and get to know you. The bathrooms are really clean with great hot showers. Super friendly team, comfortable stay, clean rooms and rather quiet environnement (for Thamel, which is never really totally quiet!). And there are even free lockers for all your stuff! This place has become my new home in KTM and I keep coming back here.

Amongst all the hotels in Thamel, this seems to be an under the radar gem. Hidden inside a side street, its very close to the best restaurants. New Orleans and the roadhouse are nearby. Hot water and AC great. The stairs are a bit of a climb if you are on upper floor. Ask for a lower floor. No elevators.

We were not so sure how it's gonna be after the earthquake, but Thamel area is totally back to normal just without tourists. Our Stay in Hotel Norling has been awesome! Airport pick up was smooth and we were welcomed by staffs. Our room is very clean and the shower here are the best during our 3 months stay in India/Nepal. We really enjoyed our stay and loved the hot shower. Great location in the middle of thamel. They provide free drinking water and you get 10% off in their restaurant. We booked with them the bus and a tour in Chitwan which was a great offer. They are helpful but don’t push or force you to buy something.

we stayed at the mantra home for 5 days and felt very safe and comfortable. rooms are big, included breakfast was great and the owners were very friendly and helpful (they organized taxi, offered free luggage storage for 21 days and cheaper fast and good laundry service). very good location, would come there again any time!
