We had a relaxing 4-night stay at HESTA Hakone. The location is beautiful and quiet—perfect for a nature getaway. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable, with a nice view of the surrounding greenery. It's a great base for exploring Hakone’s sights during the day. However, it's good to note that nearby shops and cafes tend to close quite early, around 4pm, so dinner options are very limited if you return late. The hostel itself doesn’t have a canteen—only vending machines and cup noodles available. It would feel a little more complete if there was a small food counter or dining area on-site. That said, if you plan your meals in advance or bring back food from town earlier in the day, the peaceful atmosphere and comfort still make this a great place to unwind.
Pros - large room, comfortable bed, very quiet and clean, fridge in room, hot/cold water available, traditional style onsen onsite. Cons - Very little/no food on site or near by. Either bring your own on arrival or take the boat cruise to 711 on the other side of the lake to stock-up (don't miss the Cedar walkway). Microwaves on-site. No showers in rooms washing done in Onsen (it's no clothes in onsen. Traditional dressing gown and jacket provided). 10-15min walk from cruise/gondola station. Had Onsen to myself whenever I used it. Was lovely experience. If the morning is clear, get to the cablecar for 9am opening for best chance to glimpse Fuji. Be aware that cablecar & cruise start at 9am and finish at 4pm (earlier if weather bad).
Dormitory with 4-person beds The beds are standard size. There are various shelves to place your luggage on the side, which is convenient. Each bed has a locker, but it's about the size of a coin locker. There is a dining area and a coin laundry. You can bath in the hot spring for 150 yen 👍. There is one bath, but it's warm and you can take your time. By registering with an app and answering a survey at the reception, you can exchange for cup noodles and snacks available in the shop (on the shelf next to the front desk) 😊. The staff is kind and attentive. Check-in is until 9 PM, so they contacted us. There are few dining options nearby, and they close by 8 PM. Be careful!
Come for Holiday with parents, this place need abit of walking if those opt for using HAkone FreePass , as their closest stop is at the Ropeway Station walking distance abt 20min. however there is a short cut, if u go through others hotel entrance and exit at back of the hotel. However, they have bus stop just 5min walking distance outside the hotel. Very cooling place, inside have vending food machine which settle our dinner...mind that do not have bathroom inside the room. They do provide public bath which compulasay chargeable during check in abt 150Yen /person/day ( u can experice it , not bad) No food shop after 4pm around so befire coming up hill please prepare yr meal. Canteen provide microwave, and hot water, laundary. It was our first experence to encounter ice rain for the first few secound before it geeting rains. ( can imagine how cool is there). On a good weather u can see Mt Fuji on the left using Togendai Line Bus to Hakone Yumato. ( +-3min after bus start journey from Togendai Station) Hotel do provide umbrella if you request from counter. Overall not bad if u plan to choose a quite place.

“Beautiful place negated by a rude cleaning staff”
Beautiful guest house. Enjoyed the onsen. We arrived during a very stormy day. Hungry and wet. No one at the reception. The hired cleaners said that we could go to the kitchen and buy food from the vending machine. So we did. Then later on came the maintenance staff I believe and gave us the look and shook his head. So so rude. We have travelled all over the world and not once treated rudely by any hotel staff. We felt more stressed than relaxed to be in that place. If not for the storm, we would have left. We came all the way from Canada and have looked forward to this trip for a very long time. Really devastating experience. The following day, we were checking out, nobody at the counter again. But that same guy saw us, just ignored us and went to his office. So we just put the keys at the counter and left…awful person. Sorry, I wasn’t gonna say anything..but on second thought, someone needs to know. Very bad for your business.
