The location and hospitality were excellent. Additionally, I was able to stay in a new suite that was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Waking up and being able to see the streets of Porto right away became a wonderful memory. Furthermore, there was a port wine factory in the same building, and I was able to tour and taste their wines at a special rate. It was a learning experience as the wine was different from what I usually drink. As a note for future guests, right below the room is a wandering spot filled with restaurants and stalls, and club music could be heard up until around midnight. It would have been nice if it had been romantic music to match the scenery, but the time zone difference made me want to sleep early, and that was a drawback. It might not be an issue if you stay in a hostel instead of a suite. Conversely, for those who want to have a lively and fun stay, it might not be a problem at all.

Since it was my first time using a dormitory, I had a lot of concerns, but the conclusion is that I am very satisfied. The common area is nice, the breakfast is excellent, and above all, the bathroom is larger and better than in hotels. The staff members were all very kind. I was aware of the downsides, such as needing to be quiet in the common area and being woken up by others, and I think those are things I have to accept when making a reservation. As for the hostel facilities and consideration for guests, I want to say it is the best in the industry!

Really an excellent hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent with fantastic views toward Porto. The property itself is very relaxing and the large barrel shaped beds in the dorms were very comfortable. It was a surprise to find our beds made up for us. The waterfall showers were hot and powerful. There is an issue with leaking water and one leaking over a power socket and one of our party had to change beds but not really an issue. Some nice options for breakfast and for the price paid this was an excellent value hostel. I would stay here again.

“The Gem of Gaia”
The true highlight of the hostel are the accomodations, as they should be. The bedroom in itself is very spacious and the space between beds is huge (so big that there could have been room to put a wall between each bed. However the intent was clearly to provide a hostel experience). The most impressive thing about this whole place are the bed frames. No ugly mix of glued cardboard and wood shaving here, no sir. What you'll get a barrel port wine shaped metal bed frame (probably custom welding job). 5* don't have beds so aesthetically pleasing. The mattress are not in the standard single person EU format, they are way wider providing you with a lot of comfort. There is a lot of space for your personal belongings on each side of the bed and even a cup holder (This is so rare that it has to be noted. Most hostels provide you with barely enough space to hold your phone). The bathrooms and showers are separated from the main sleeping area through a hallway ensuring a peaceful environment at night. The 16 bed room I stayed at had 4 bathrooms, so 1 bathroom for 4 people (if at full capacity), this is the best ratio I've ever seen at a hostel. They even provide Castelbel hand soap and shower gel on the bathrooms. Regarding the common areas, the decor is what I would describe as peak 10's industrial hipster, not my thing but it is tastefully done and very cozy. The onsite bar offered a diverse selection of cocktails at fairly reasonable prices, along with a variety of port wines of Sandeman brand only of course. The hostel provides a complimentary breakfast, you'll get a plate with a croissant ham and cheese, along with self service food. At check in, the receptionist will guide you to your room concierge style, first time seeing that at a hostel. The personnel is overall very well trained and agreeable. Towel is provided for free should you need one (against a 5€ deposit). The only downsides I can come up with is a lack of hostel activities, so no bar crawl here. Clearly not the target demographic of the Sandeman brand. Still something could be done. No outside private area either. In conclusion, despite a minor shortcoming, this hostel offers a comfortable and stylish stay at a reasonable price. They are so above the competition in areas that matter the most that they deserve the highest grade possible. 10/10.
