“Good hotel but room for improvement”
We stayed in The Oceanic Sportel Deluxe Corner King Room on the 4th floor of The Oceanic Sportel. The room was spacious for the three of us (2 adults + 1 child). The bed was made up of two double-sized beds, which was extra large and easily accommodated all three of us. The A/C kept the room cool, which was important in Phuket. The toilet and bath area were separated, with the water basin outside, as shown in the hotel photos. I believe all their rooms have a similar bathroom layout. Our room faced the backyard of a residential neighborhood, providing a small view of the sea. The room itself was fine, but it was a bit noisy throughout the day and night due to machinery/water pump noises from the ground floor. I think the hotel needs to address this issue, as I can’t imagine how the lower-level rooms cope with that noise. Facilities: There is a small-to-medium-sized swimming pool, which didn't get much sun, so it was quite cool. Since it was the rainy season, we didn’t dare to swim after it rained. There is a video game room, but it costs 20 baht for each round. There is a pool bar and playroom, which we didn’t use. There are car charging facilities, which we also didn’t use. There are 5 tennis courts (3 indoor and 2 outdoor), but we didn’t use those either. Breakfast: There is significant room for improvement in breakfast options. By the third morning, we were bored with the food choices. The "cooked eggs" system needs a lot of improvements. You have to fill out a form indicating what kind of cooked egg you want and any fillings, and then you receive a number. The eggs are cooked in the kitchen, so you don’t see them being prepared, and sometimes the wrong eggs were delivered or they took too long to cook. I suggest the hotel follow the practice of other hotels and have the chef cook the eggs in front of guests. Location: There is literally nothing interesting within walking distance of the hotel. If you’re not driving, you will need to call Grab to go anywhere. The hotel offers a shuttle to Central Phuket and Old Town for 80 baht per person, but there’s only one round trip per day. Since we drove, the hotel’s location was convenient for us, with free parking just outside the lobby. The largest Supercheap supermarket is an 8-minute drive away, and food stores are 5 minutes away. Central Phuket is about 10 minutes away. However, if you plan to go to the beach, Patong, Kata, and Karon are over 30 minutes away. We aren’t really beach people, so that didn’t bother us. This is our fifth time in Phuket, and we usually stay at the neighboring hotel (NH Boat Lagoon). This was our first time at The Oceanic Sportel. If I were to compare the two hotels, each has its advantages: NH Boat Lagoon: Better breakfast, but the dining area lacks A/C, and birds and flies can take your food. Warmer and larger pool. Quieter atmosphere. More expensive. More experienced staff. Facilities are dated, with issues like toilet blocks and A/C failures. The Oceanic Sportel: Rooms are slightly more spacious and newer. A bit cheaper. Both NH and Sportel are not convenient if you don’t drive, and neither is close to any beaches. However, both hotels are clean.
