“Great location for home base... rent a bicycle for best experience”
There is probably no better value for the money than Toyoko Inn Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi. I stayed two nights in early March, 2025 and found it to be the ideal home base for adventures in the region. The buffet breakfast - with choice of western or asian was a delight and helped me to start each day off with a full belly and fueled for an entire day of adventures (didn't need to eat a lunch with such a big breakfast, saving both time and money). Pro Tip #1: Take advantage of the light blue shuttle bus from the train station to the hotel. It is quite a long walk to pull luggage (and don't even try it if you have spinner wheels luggage... the sidewalks/roads are rough on the wheels - only do it if you have two wheel luggage with inline skate wheels). The shuttle is a godsend and is free for guests. Pro Tip #2: Rent a bicycle overnight spanning two days. This will allow you to do three things: 1) ride all around Lake Kawaguchi - about 11 miles, and visit the Mt Fuji shrine (UNESCO) along the way, a hidden gem. this takes maybe 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace, so 2) ride out to Chureito Pagoda and stay for sunset watching Mt. Fuji and clouds change colors during golden hour and ride home in the dark (bring a tripod and take a time lapse video of Mt Fuji with your smartphone at sunset spanning 30-45 minutes for an incredible video that is easy to share once you get home), and #3, Get up before the crack of dawn and ride out to the middle of the Lake Kawaguchi bridge and set your smartphone on a tripod and take a time lapse video of the sunrise with the glass smooth lake of Lake Kawaguchi reflecting the majestic Mt. Fuji in the mirrored lake surface. Once the sun is up and the wind starts picking up, the perfect reflection will be lost. The bicycle helps you get out to the middle of the bridge from the hotel in about 5-7 minutes. You can still return back to the hotel after sunrise for breakfast. All in all, Toyoko Inn Fuji was clean, modern, comfortable, and perfectly situated to spend two to four days exploring all of the gems this region has to offer. Next time I come to Lake Kawaguchi, I am going to stay at Toyoko Inn for sure. No better deal in town.
