Overall a very nice stay in what felt like a traditional Japanese guesthouse. The location was very nice. Close enough to the lake to be walkable and far enough away to not be overrun with tour buses. The bathrooms are shared, but they are some of the most clean shared showers I have ever seen. The sleep on a tatami room experience was super cool and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to try. Also, the shabu-shabu served by the guesthouse was Super yummy and there was so much we had a difficult time finishing it all! The staff were all fantastic.
This place is a gem. It’s a short walk from kawaguchiko station and the hosts were very nice. They helped us keep our bags while we climbed up My Fuji and were very kind. The rooms were big and comfortable with the toilets and shower rooms clean. There was free breakfast albeit toast and jam but you get to enjoy free Japanese drip coffee and tea anytime. I liked how homely the place is and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting kawaguchiko.
This place exceeded expectations with its comfortable rooms and impeccable housekeeping. Wifi was reliable and the location was perfect for exploring the area on foot. Clean facilities and friendly staff added to the overall positive vibes of the place. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a great homely stay.
We stayed in the Mountain View room with a bunk bed and three futons, which was quite spacious, cozy and comfortable for our group. On clear days, we could even see Mount Fuji right from the window—a lovely bonus! One evening we ordered the shabu shabu (hotpot) prepared by the guesthouse, and it was just what we needed after our Mount Fuji hike. The portion was generous, with lots of vegetables, some pork, and udon noodles. It’s worth noting that, as with many DIY-style guesthouses, guests are expected to wash and clean the dishes afterward.

“Beautiful guesthouse with Mt. Fuji view!”
TLDR: Stay here for a great value and memorable experience! You won't regret it. Why can't Agoda allow reviews with pictures?! Location: The guesthouse is just a short walk from the Kawaguchi-kou station. You'll find a lot of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Facilities and service: I've stayed in several ryoukan before, and Wafu Kashiwaya is definitely a great one! The guesthouse is carefully maintained and decorated in a traditional Japanese way. The first floor is public space. You can read and rest during the day in the lounge. There are also Japanese style rooms for free kimono wearing and Japanese calligraphy experience. My mother tried on the kimono with help from the friendly staff; she couldn't be happier! There is a shared toilet, three shared shower rooms, and one private bath you can utilize in turn for privacy. There are also coin laundry and drying machines you can use. You can store luggage before checking in/after checking out. If you check out early, just follow the instructions and return the keys and fill out the luggage storage information sheet. Meals: The guesthouse provides simple continental breakfast. You'll find the breakfast ready for you at 7am with labels of your room's name. I see a leaflet that you can also reserve a shabu-shabu for dinner by 4pm. Staff: The staff were so helpful and friendly! I believe we met three to four staff in total during our one-night stay. The older lady, maybe the owner, speaks great English. Another younger lady whom we have talked to could communicate in sufficient English, but it'll be helpful if you can speak a little Japanese if you want to do the cultural experience. We stored the luggage before checking in, and the staff already helped us bring the heavy luggage to our room on the second floor by the time of check-in! Room: I can't express how great our room was! We stayed in probably the second-largest room in the guesthouse ("Nishi"). It was a 6-cho (6 tatami mats) room and wide enough for two to four adults. The surprise was, we could directly see Mt. Fuji from our room!!! The guesthouse has 6 rooms in total, and I think maybe 2-3 rooms have the Mt. Fuji view. The room was clean. You'll have to make the beds (Japanese futons) yourself, but detailed information sheets about how to make the beds are provided in the room. There are two shared toilets on the second floor, so you don't need to walk down. My only concern was the loud noise from the floor outside of our room. It was probably due to the age of the house. We didn't have a problem with it, but it was very quiet in nights, and we worried that the noise would bother other guests.
