“Everything is fine but needs an upgrade.”
I stayed in a private room for 1 person. They only cleaned the room 2 out of 3 days, but on the last day they took out the trash. (-) I prefer to mention the limitations first. Ignoring the small area issue as this is a common situation in Hong Kong. - The room is very old. The walls are stained yellow, with a lot of dirt marks. On the first day, I felt a musty smell that made it hard to sleep (not sure if it was from the walls or the pillow?), and the lack of cleanliness made me feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, the musty smell was gone on the following nights. The stool was so old that the leather was peeling off and falling on the floor. The shower curtain was old and yellowed. - The clothes drying rack in the bathroom is rusty. I didn’t dare to hang my towel or clothes on it. - There are no coat hooks. They have a hanging rod and a few adhesive hooks scattered around the window. - No slippers in the room. Luckily I brought my own hooks and slippers from home, along with newspapers to lay on the shelf before putting my stuff on it. I recommend everyone bring compact hooks and disposable slippers. - My friend in the dorm said they don’t provide disposable towels, and the rooms are very old. She often stays in dorms while traveling and considers this one of the worst dorm beds. - The reception and the rooms are scattered across different floors in the apartment building. It feels a bit scary to be in an apartment, especially for a woman. The 11th floor where I stayed has 4 rooms. In the evening, a man opened my room door but it was locked. I asked a few questions, and he realized he was at the wrong room, and I heard him open the door of the next room. It was a bit scary. If something happened, I wouldn’t know who to call since my friend is in a dorm on the 5th floor, and to take the elevator to another floor you need the key card from that room. (+) Advantages - Disposable towels were provided for 3 out of the 4 days I stayed there. There was a mat provided in front of the bathroom for you to wipe your feet when stepping out. (Note: my friend in the dorm said they didn't have towels). - Although old, the provided items were clean. The bed and pillows were not dirty. - The room looks exactly like the pictures, simply and neatly arranged, enough space for belongings, with a nice view of the city. - Strong shower. - There’s free filtered water (you need to prepare your own bottle). - There are many eateries nearby, with a barbecue place open until 11 PM still selling food. - The location is the biggest advantage. It's only about 150 meters to the train station. There’s a famous porridge shop at the train station, and opposite is a really good tofu shop. - The price is reasonable compared to hotel rates in Hong Kong.
